I know it states on the UCAS website that most universities will still consider your application if you apply after the deadline but realistically will this happen especially given the number of students applying this year?

It depends where you apply really. Look at websites, contact unis etc.

    For example: Stirling.
All applications received by UCAS before the initial ‘cut-off’ date (currently 15 January) will be considered on an equal basis. However, we can normally also consider applications for most subjects after this date, so please continue to apply if you wish.

This is just an example, but if you really research it and consider everything, I would say you are still likely to get offers.

They don't have to consider your application at all after the deadline, as you say, some will if they have spaces after considering all of the people who applie before the deadline but others will not as they have enough applicants anyway. Before applying anywhere contact the universities and their relevant departments and get them to confirm (in writing) that they are still accepting applications for your course. Theres no point applying somewhere if they won't consider you as its a waste so doing some research to ensure you're focusing your efforts at the right universities will be worth it.

Considering that you're already late, you may as well wait until the UCAS Extra listings come out - that will be a good guide as to which uni's are accepting applications for each subject.

25th February. It's worth reading the pinned topic 'Applying after 22 January' too.

I applied in August and started in September. If you're applying late it doesn't hurt to check the websites and if there's no answer there just send a quick, polite email to admissions. They'll let you know whether they'll consider your application at all.
