Hi, i was recently declined from both my universities of choice, one said it was because of my Maths GCSE, which was an F and 1 said it was my UCAS point count which is 120.

I want to gain another 120 points as thats what i need for the 2011 entry. Hoping i can do this in 1 year.

What can i do to make up 120 points in 1 year? or at the very most 2?

I'm studying IT and currently have a BTEC First and National Diploma, i know the First Diploma isnt worth anything now, the National is worth 120.

    Thanks

I don't wish to sound harsh or anything, but if you got an F at GCSE maths and only have 120 UCAS points, maybe you should rethink your plans. Maybe University just isn't for you.

Yh tbh you won't get far with an F in GCSE Maths. Retake it and maybe a couple of A levels?

You only got 120 UCAS points from your diploma? Were you asleep?

You'd be best attempting Alevels and take needed GCSEs at night.

Just worked out that 120 UCAS points in a diploma is PPP which is EEE at A level. You really won't get far with that. Maybe an access course if you're really desperate for uni? It seems like education maybe isn't for you.

Yeah i had a few personal problems with family and stuff at the time, set me back a bit, i managed to pass the National without programming units, including a double unit.

You won't get into any unis with a 120 unless you're a mature applicant. Retake your maths, and maybe do an access course like a foundation diploma or something or some as levels. you really don't sound prepared enough for university.

Can I just ask how on earth you only got 120 points from a BTEC National?

Retake GCSE maths and do one easy Alevel and try and get an A. I would think one A is easier than multiple AS levels.

Foundation course? I believe that you can either do a one year foundation degree and then carry on and do the full four year degree OR do a two year foundation degree and then a final top-up year...? You only need something ridiculous like 80 points to get accepted anyway xx

    Good good!

Access courses are interesting enough. They're by no means as easy as some of the folk on here seem to profess. It really depends on what he wants to study, if he's really not bothered and he'll study anywhere then he'll easily pick up a course in clearing with an access course. I'm doing chemistry and wanted to do it at a semi decent university so have to do access, foundation then undergrad.
