I did Camp America last year and bull******* nearly everything in my app. I talked crap about how I regularly made camp fires and that piffle. As long as you can talk confidently about yourself, you'll be fine.

Camp's more about the experience that the kids have, rather than what they'll learn. They'll hire specialists in certain things (like tennis for example) and you'll just be there to ensure the kids have a good time and get involved etc.

There's a lot less general counsellor's being hired this year due to the recession, camps are mostly looking for people with skills ;( You have to write about 3-5 of the activities on the list they give you and your experiences of them and such, they recently posted a list of skills there no longer accepting on there website as well.

You also need two references less than 6 months old by people who've known you for 12 or more months.

Always worth a try! An experience you will never forget. One thing to watch though is that if you don't actually have anything to come back to the US will be wary of allowing you a visa.

    Camp America returner...
I'm looking for advice actually. I'm considering applying next year - 2011 as I'll be 18 on the 27th may that year. However, as it'd be my A-levels I don't know how late/early I would be able to leave. Do they want people to leave as early as they can? I wouldn't realistically be able to go until late June/Early July depending on what exams I had...

The earlier you can go the better, however I would not advise having a leaving date later than around 25th June as training weeks and some camps often start even before this. Id advise calling CA.
