so which is better a bike or treadmill im lookin to have a good cardiovascular work out ooh and are gym balls great for building muscles ...........does anybody else use it???
dodging bullets makes for great training dude, run outside anyway
id rather run than cycle, one reason being that running is higher impact and **** - also when I gotta run from the po-lice, training running will probably help me more than cycling
Amount of calories burned is related to heart-rate, providing both machines can get your heart-rate to the desired level, both will burn a similar amount of calories. Which one is "better" is therefore just personal choice, but I'll ask you, why not spend £300 on a road-bike than £300 on a bike which sits still? I can regularly go for 2-4 hour rides on my road-bike, I can handle about 30 minutes on a stationary bike before boredom hits hard.
ride to the gym then use the treadmill - problem solved! thats what i do, 5 miles (15 mins) to the gym, knock myself out in the gym/pool for an hour, then homewards. At least once a week as well: Home->5miles->work->5miles->gym/pool->5miles->home.

riding a real bike or actually jogging is better than both. I dont really understand why people use these machines; for the large part they seem unnecessary.
i feel like i get better exercise from a treadmill than from a bike. like in running, you involve your whole body (your arm swing, etc), while in a bike, everything is more or less stationary/fixed except your legs. 20 minutes on a treadmill, for example, would give me a great cardio workout, and seems to have exercised a lot of muscle groups. 20 minutes on a bike, on the other hand, makes me feel like i need to ride for another 20 minutes to achieve the same effect as I'd get from a treadmill.
ive always prefered cycling to running, i dont know which is better for you.. I just find cycling taking the strain off my ankles and feet, which ive had problems with in the past and had to have physio on.
In the gym (when i bother to go) I use the bike. Never run on the treadmill. 1) im crap at running and become knackered so quickly and 2) im paranoid about the thumping noise im bound to make so that the whole gym can hear me. Never tested it out though...
running, as it burns calories faster so it gets rid of the fat hiding it faster. you can have the abs of ronnie coleman and it would look like a beer belly if you didn't lose the fat.

Not that I actually like imasillynarb, but he is actually right in saying that heart rate determines calories burnt. So no running doesn't burn more calories unless you are doing it at a faster pace and even then you can match that pace on a bike until you can go no further, so no running does not burn more.
I for one use an exercise bike as my knees have always been painful when i run for long period's, most bodybuilders use exercise bikes to cut as well simply because of the stress their extra bodyweight would put on their knees if they where to run day in day out for long periods.
Edit: also thought i would add to burn fat effectively you want to be doing cardio for atleast 25-30 mins. No matter what kind of exercise your doing, as this is around the point the body begins to switch to stored fat as it's energy source.
in a gym i much prefer a treadmill to a exercise bike, the bike is so boring but i love the treadmill, in no gym excercise i prefer a cycle to a jog though
a few years ago my step dad bought an exercise bike, i wished he got a treadmill instead .
