Explain, using suitable mechanisms, why compound H will undergo deuterium exchange but compound I will not.

please help me with this question, it is due today!!!!!!!!!!1

see the attached document
tanx!

shouldn't have tried to finish off assignments few hours before the deadline!

anyway, H can form the enolate in the presence of base, OD- which then protonates with the D from D2O

but I can't form the enolate as there is no alpha proton next to the carbonyl, hence no deuterium exchange.

read up enolate if you are not familiar with that.
