im using that program dez suggested, and turned it off for a bit to look at a photo
:awesome: I'm using it too actually, it's quite good. I set the transition to 60 minutes though, a 20-second change is too quick for me :moon:

basically, when your in a dark room, you dont want your screen blasting out full brightness... as it burns your eyes

the program reduces the brightness / tinges everything slightly orange, to reduce the burning effect.

    Oh.
Fn+F5 on my laptop to lower the brightness. XD
But I think it changes the gamma too seeing as the tint of the colour changes.

It adjusts the colour temperature, which isn't quite the same thing. :bubbles:

Your eyes adjust during the day to consider different shades as pure white, in sunlight white is more blue-ish, at night (with indoor lighting) it goes more orange. Anyone who's used a camera before (ahem: me :p:) knows that cameras can't do the same thing as our eyes, and need to be forcibly told what is white, which is what we call white balancing. Of course, you can adjust the colour temp in Photoshop too if you get it wrong the first time.

F.lux basically white-balances your screen to better match the light around you (sunlight in the day, incandescent bulbs at night). So in theory your eyes shouldn't notice the difference, but it may take a while for you to adjust.

It's difficult to quantify - bits and pieces here and there. I lack the motivation to sit down and write a big block of text, unfortunately. I'm hoping the motivation will arrive soon. The first draft is probably 60-70% done :dontknow:
