Interesting article. :holmes:

A lot of companies also want to move forward with downloading and streaming HD content (films but more importantly games) and the major hindrance right now are the speeds.
Also Google +

Google has finally unveiled Google+, the company’s top secret social layer that turns all of Google into one giant social network.
Google+, which begins rolling out a very limited field test on Tuesday, is the culmination of a year-long project led by Google Senior Vice President of Social Vic Gundotra. The project, which has been delayed several times, is without doubt Google’s answer to Facebook.

The search giant’s new social project will be omnipresent on every Google product, thanks to a complete redesign of the Google navigation bar. The familiar gray bar at the top of every Google page will turn black, and come with several new options for accessing your Google+ profile, viewing notifications and instantly sharing content at any time. The notification system is similar to how Facebook handles notifications, complete with a red number that increases with each additional notice.

At its core, Google+ is a social network. The first thing users are introduced to when they visit Google+ is the Stream. It’s much like the Facebook News Feed, allowing users to share photos, videos, links or their location with friends.

I loved that article. I've always wondered why they allowed their quality of service to remain so poor and limited compared to Europe.
Makes me glad to be where we are honestly.

Yeah me too

Of course, all this is only true if you live in an area with LLU. If you're connected to a minor exchange you can say goodbye to all that nice stuff like unlimited bandwidth and low prices.
See http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?p=32483769#post32483769 - the bit about caps rings completely true for me.

I suppose yeah

Hey guys,

What do you think:

Stick with Be* for my ISP. I get around 10 - 15 Mb down (Up to 24Mb service, unlimited). £18/month. If I resign another 12m contract I get 3 months free.
Go for BT Infinity for £25/month, get around 30Mb service, unlimited. 18m contract.

I've had no problems at all with Be, I like the router (awesome for port forwarding!) and I don't really torrent much (and if I do it's once a week for the odd TV show), game a fair bit, YouTube / iPlayer etc...

We've had Be* at home for a while now and haven't had any problems with them so I'd say stick with them.

Yeah, can't wait till fibre becomes commonplace

Certainly looks very good and will be keeping a close eye on it
I got into Google Plus (got sent an invite). If anybody is interested and wants to have a look at it, PM your email address and I'd be happy to shoot over an invite.

Blizzard be trollin'

[On Window XP, open the firewall exceptions tab and press the add port button]
7. In the Add a Port dialog, add port 6881 then click OK. This will return you to the Exceptions tab shown in figure 5. Repeat the above stops for the following ports: 6882-6999

You can now close all the windows you opened by following the steps above. Congratulations! Your firewall should now allow traffic on the necessary ports for proper World of Warcraft game playing and Blizzard Downloader operation.

Yes, they want you to do this for 119 different ports. They cannot seriously put this on a help page...and yet they have.
Original post by G8D
Can't you open a range of ports?

Apparently not. I'm sure there is some way, but nothing simple in that particular dialog.
It is possible to do it very quickly via command line (so they could offer a single line batch script if they thought about it for more than a single minute).
Alternatively they could automatically/manually add exceptions for the executable(s) itself(themselves).

The current recommendation is madness.

Single pass? What size is it?

Are invites on G+ open? I can't work out how to use them if they are :colondollar:

The official invite feature is disabled. But you can get past it by creating a circle of non-G+ users and sending the circle a message.
Original post by G8D
Like a message on the wall but only to that group? Apparently it hasn't worked.

Yeah. I have no idea why it didn't work then. They were problems yesterday morning where Google kept opening and closing the loophole, but everyone in the invites thread seems to be getting in.
Original post by G8D
One is met by 404s and the other with a "you can't join yet" link.

They could have closed the loophole for now. Getting similar reports on NeoGaf.

No, he's using Truecrypt... trying to write data to his new external HDD so he can encrypt it.

1TB, was a single pass writing random data (using "wipe", not TrueCrypt). It took 18 hours in the end.
We all know why secretmessages needs to encrypt his external HDD.

It's a ULV processor though... funny that, I just ordered a new laptop...
