    Hi Folks,

I am from India currently doing my MSc in Finance and investment in University of Edinburgh. prior to this I was working with Deutsche Bank in investment banking operations mainly into derivative confirmations. I have overall 3.5 years of work exp out of which approx 2.5 years in IB operations.
I also hold PGDBM (MBA equivalent in India) in finance and marketing from India. My undergrad was into Bachelor of Commerce. My Xth grade (i guess GCSE in UK) in Maths was 80%, science 84% and social science 83%. My all the other grades have been above 70%.

I wanted to move into core Investment banking field or even into fund management. Since I am a student, I dont have work permit in UK.

My concern is I have been applying for top IB's from november 2009. but unfortunately everything is being rejected in application stage. I understand applications are really important but the essy questions really sucks. Also i believe the positions are really competitive.

I am pretty tensed now. would like to secure a graduate position atleat by sept 2010 i.e by end of my msc program. I wouldnt mind working for a smallest firm. but all i wanted is to get a real investment banking experience.

so please help me out or suggest me on some small IB's or fund management companies and how to crack the application process and secure a job?

    your advice will be greatful.

    cheers,

Erm... you started applying full time positions on November? That is way too late considering most FT FO roles are filled up or carrying out final ACs by November.

Also essay questions requires you to do research and spend time doing it properly. Most applications needs to be out by September as sending them near deadline is hardly a good idea.

As for now it is bit too late for any large firms to recruit you for this year start... if you want to ask smaller firms there is list of smaller boutiques in Benedix section (i don't advise you to use their service but just to see the companies list).

    Thanks Neocortex,

I apologise for using harsh words on essay questions.

we had our career fair in early October last year. since I was really new to the place I didnt really understood the importance of application. so with little research I just proceeded with application.

Now I am more focussing on smaller firms. will keep u updated and post any queries if i want to get clarified..

    cheers

Try applying to the Cornell Partnership, they run applications for boutiques and don't require essays to fill in

Although, as above, way too late now, you'll have to try for next years intake

are they going to consider my application
    Apply for a summer internship.
You have no chance without one.
It may not be too late for some IBs.
(Although most applications have closed )
