    Heya gaiz!
So I was thinking maybe I should get out of jeans and attempt to look somewhat more elegant; if not on a daily basis, then at least for special-ish occasions, and I was thinking it's probably best to buy good clothes that cost more but will last...

At the moment, most of my clothes come from M&S, Artigiano, Primark, Next, H&M etc, but I was thinking about maybe buying certain 'staples' like skirts, cashmere jumpers etc that will last if I look after them.

So, is it worth buying them 'designer' like Chanel etc, and if not, then where else should I go? Anyone got any websites I could check out?

I'm in London a lot, so I should be able to get to any shops...

    Thanks and rep,
    Jess x

You can get clothes that look just as good from the shops you mentioned as designer labels, obviously bar the monogrammed clothing. It's not really worth it, since you're really just paying for the price, but if it makes you feel better...

Yeah, it is good to try something new, I prefer the replica ones very much as they are mostly of the highest quality and very similar to the real name brand ones.

If you are wary about spending a lot, then maybe you should find a middle-ground. Go to apparel shops such as All-saints: http://allsaints.com. I'd class this as in between those shops you mentioned, and designer stuff but still great quality.

Other good places you should check out:

I personally wouldn't shop at places like Gucci or Chanel for basic staples. I always feel that you can get that stuff for cheaper elsewhere. You can find excellent cashmere jumpers from lesser-known brands for a lot less, in my mind a plain cashmere jumper is a plain cashmere jumper. Jeans though then yes, I'd probably go for 7FAM or True Religion for these.

But I would suggest shopping at Chanel, Fendi etc for statement pieces. Clothes that look great, that aren't just basic staples but ones you could use often, eg. a gorgeous top or dress. They are perfect for a getting a few really good looking, stylish pieces - and of far better quality than you could ever get on the high street (not to mention style, that is why you are buying this items, great style - that you most definitely will not get elsewhere)- if you have the money clothes like this are certainly worth it.

Check out www.net-a-porter.com it is a great site for women's designer clothes. www.brownsfashion.com is also great. For real life shops, definitely hit up Selfridges, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, even Sloane Street if you can (although you don't get a big range all at once like a department store)

Massimo Dutti is excellent for mid-range, more 'elegant' clothing.
