    Hello I need some advice.
Basically I have applied for spanish and english or just spanish at various universities. I have an offer from UCL to study spanish and an offer from Exeter to study joint honours english and spanish. I got rejected from Oxford for English and Spanish.

I would go to UCL, based on its amazing reputation and the fact that it is in London- post-university job opportunities would be right on my doorstep. Also it is a 'global university' so it is widely recognised all over the world. However.. I wonder if I would miss English as it is a subject I really do enjoy. Also I have financial concerns regarding London and does the fact that everything is so expensive hinder student life a lot? I love going out a lot and socialising and I'm worried I might be restricted in this area at UCL. Whereas I know Exeter has a really good union (have heard UCL's is a bit dodge) and Exeter is a more student friendly town.

Finally, I am also considering just taking a year out, going to Spain or South America, working to earn some more money and then re-applying to Oxford (just for Spanish) as I know my ELAT was crap and that was probably a major reason for rejection. I would also apply to UCL again (would they accept me again) and other places- dont know where.

HELP PLEASE! (Sorry for very long message)

There's no guarantee that oxford will take you and UCL could not offer you another spot, so basically you could miss out on going to the 4th best uni in the world?!

I've heard amazing stories of UCL of people socializing so don't worry about that, at the end of the day it all depends of the type of person you are and if you are a social person you'll find friends wherever you go, but don't throw a year away, YOU HAVE UCL FOR CRYING OUT LOUD

I would personally firm Exeter and then, if your results come out as really good, re-apply.

Why don't give UCL a call to change your course there to Combination English and Spanish? If they don't offer that type of course then I'm sorry

Go to both of them, have a look around, see how you feel. I don't think UCL's prestige would be worth sacrificing the course (and possibly the place) you like better, Exeter is still a great uni. You could also firm one of them and then decide later on to take a gap year, no one is going to force you to go in September. But I wouldn't reapply just because you're still hung up on Oxford (and I speak as a fellow reject), you're just setting yourself up for failure.

Yeah I would try contacting UCL about the course. If still no go then you know.

I think UCL is a great place to go..
I don't think its worth taking a year out and therefore sacrificing the offers you have: would you really be prepared to go through UCAS a second time round and even then, your chances at Oxford won't be that much higher..
I live in London, and depending on how you budget, its not such an expensive place to live..
And chances are if you do find yourself short of cash, it could happen anywhere..

The majority of applicants would love to be in your position....offers from two of the top universities in the country.
Pick one of them (UCL probably), and be grateful!

UCL IS LIKE THE 4TH BEST UNI IN THE WORLD GUYS.

Seriously though, either choice is fine, I wouldn't know which one is better for languages though. Forget about Oxford.
