well certain mutations in cell surface proteins, usually since T lymphocytes deal with the bodys own cells, it attacks only those that show viral, bacterial, cancer, etc proteins on there surface. It anyone has a genetic mutation a Tlymphocyte can pick up an abnormal protein in the pancreatic cells, leading to there own damage.
