I think the mix of Arts and Science students will probably provide more stimulation than being surrounded by a bunch of clever scientists (no offence to scientists (I'd like to think I am one) but do tend to get stuck in our little niches of specialism and know far less about everything else). The lawyers, sociologists, politics students and english students will probably provide much more variety of people.
yeah i was thinking along the same lines

And yes I would assume that castle will be a little bit swottier than elsewhere (although I'd be willing to bet it'll have its share of rugger buggers too ).

And of course you're not confined to colleges (no matter what they like to think at Durham they're really not much more than super dooper halls).

I'd say make an effort to look for intelligence where you would least expect it - the smartest and most interesting person I met at uni (and my best mate) was a 40 yr old Salford man who'd spent the majority of his life in the army or in the building trade.
youre quite right. thanks for that post

I do slightly, yes. ur 1-6 are fine, but i'd say 7. BRISTOL 8. NOTT 9. YORK 10. BATH

I find it amusing that people who can't do sciences nearly always place LSE above Imperial, and scientists put Imperial on top.

Well, you cannot really compare them...mutually exclusive areas of work.

UCL is the DON of universities that people rate sooo highly for absolutely no good reason

45000 a year, so how many of your average americans go to harvard?

45k USD is not very expense seeing that international students going to the UK must pay in excess of 20k pounds sterling.....

I think that any rating of universities by people on this board will be subjective and thoroughly unscientific... I'd prefer to use The Times table, although even that with a pinch of salt.

So between the three of us we have 3 had 3 offers and none of us have taken / will take Durham as our first or second choices...Durham must be heartbroken...

i want to go to durham but if its going to be full of people with mediocre alevels maybe i wont get the intellectual stimulation i want?

does anyone think that the students at castle college will be likely to have better alevels than average due to the high app:acceptance ratio (14:1) (as thats where id be going)?
One of my best friends bot AAAAA at A Level and is now reading history at Durham (St Chad's). I think she's feeling fairly 'stimulated'. LOL.

It was my second or third in order of preference but all the other 5 (especially Notts) have impressed me since I applied and Durham haven't really shown me anything great about them so they have fallen by the wayside in my choices...bet they will be crushed...
