How would I answer the following question, I recently started waves in my AS class.

" Describe how transverse water waves with a plane wavefront may be produced in a ripple tank".

Its work 2 marks. I imagine you would use a slit to diffract the waves?

I remember seeing a demo of this in class once, and it was done by oscillating a ruler in and out of the ripple tank. The ruler gave the waves a straight wavefront, in the same way a ball would give them a circular wavefront.

if you used a slit then it would have rounded edges, so wouldn't be a plane wavefront, and you'd still need to generate something to pass through the slit anyway

    ruler would work yer
