I started university last September but ended up dropping out around 5 weeks later. When I filled out the withdrawl form they asked my if I wanted to defer myself a place instead of withdrawing completely. I thought this wouldn't be a bad idea, as it could be a back-up option if I didn't end up getting in anywhere else.
I wasn't sure at first how the deferral would work, & someone said they might do something like keep my UCAS open with an unconditional offer from them, as far as I know they haven't done this though. I've now applied again through UCAS to different unis (sent my application off on the 15th of Jan) & haven't had any offers yet. I'm just a bit worried that having got a deferred place at my previous uni might somehow affect my application?

Well, officially if it was through UCAS you're not allowed to hold both a deferred offer and make another application, so I would imagine you would have heard about it if there was a problem. However, how "official" your deferred place is is probably worth clarifying with the university that gave it. It's not unusual not to have heard back from universities, look at the stickied thread in this forum and you'll see there are lots of people still waiting for decisions. The universities do not need to let you know until the end of march.
