Yeh, if I wanted to, I think the main problem with smokers and quitting is that not many actually want to, but just feel as if they "should".

I think everyone is able to, it's a question if they want to or not.

The day I found out my nan had lung cancer i quit. Il freely admit it took that huge shock to stop me as iv tried to quit before (and failed) but i havent touched one since. (Fair enough thats only a week but i cant bring myself to light up; no matter how bad the cravings are)

Stopped when I was 18 and then started again at 21. Now stopped for over 3 years. Problem I have is that unlike most smokers who've given up I really enjoy it. Don't have cravings though although I think anyone who has smoked will always miss it. Or maybe that's just me.

most do want to if you believe the polls.

problem is they cant due to weakness.

I wish you good luck then, and don't stop trying if you fail once or twice. Most of those who successfully stop has made a few attempts.

Well, we don't have any negative answers yet. At least people here has some self confidence.

Dunno if weakness is the right word. Nicotine is quite heavily addictive you know...

I've been smoking for about 2 years (terrible habit, I must quit), and I've gone for long periods between heavy smoking (weeks/months), without having any desire to smoke. The only reason I always start again is the routine of a smoke and a beer, goes hand in hand like.

Certainly those who've never smoked don't realise how difficult it can be. Have to say I decided I needed to stop after chest pains and before I saw the doctor, so managed it without too muchy trouble. However I've friends who really want to give up and tried desperately to do so but always seem to fail. I know they go through hell with ot as well. All you can do is to encourage and support them. But it can be very, very difficult.

Maybe a solution would be to ditch two bad habbits instead of only one

Part of the reason I started this poll. Im just a bit curious to see if there will be a single person answering No. Personally I am one of the arrogant non-smokers who answered Yes because I am convinced I have more willpower than everyone else
have one friend who has quite serious chest an sinus problems who's tried everything she can to stop and can't. We just support her as best as we can. There appears to be two kinds of people - (and I'm not sure it's this 'willpower' thing). Some can stop easily, and some can't.I don't know why.

Hmm, maybe ( and likely ) it is down to biochemistry in the end. Really can't tell as I have never smoked and I am not particularily anxious to try just to find out :p:

I have smoked and stopped.
My Dad tends to smoke for a while and then stop. He can take it and leave it.

It just takes will power.
