In the words of Joey Tribbiani, I need a good lie... watch

Okies, basically, here's the deal...I booked myself a ticket ages and ages ago - we're talking end of October last year - to see JLS next Saturday at Hammersmith Apollo. I only ended up getting myself the one ticket because of two things: A) no one else I knew wanted to go with me and B) I had wanted to see them the day before with my flatmate in halls but the tickets were all sold out for that date, and she'd got her ticket for that date long before.

However, much as I love my parents, they've always been fiercely protective - almost too protective - of me, and my mum seems hellbent on the idea that if you go to London, whether on your own or in a group, it's probable you'll be mugged and/or killed and/or lost. I've been to London before - true, I was in a group, but she had no problem with that.

So to cut a long story short, I haven't told my parents I'm going, but she told me on the phone tonight (she rings me every evening I'm at uni) they're thinking of coming to see me next weekend, and I need a really good lie to cover up that I'm going to the gig, cos I can't face the lecture I'll get off of them about the dangers of London etc etc. I know it's really bad to do this, and I don't want to be dishonest with them, but I've been looking forward to this gig for ages and I can't face the prospect of missing it and wasting £25 of my hard earned moola.

    Thanks in advance

That would give them more of an incentive to go visiting.

A seminar or a workshop for your classes during that weekend, so you'll be too busy to spend time with them.

    Not if it's...SWINE FLU!

Watch them cower in fear at the pandemic that has killed, in half a year, about one 34th of that who have died from normal flu! :zomg:

Just say you've got plans next weekend with friends and a generally busy weekend, so could they come the weekend after instead? Say you'd rather them come on a weekend where you get to spend time with them than one where you'll be busy, that'll make them feel valued AND get you out of this.
