My mind has drawn a blank with this bit of an equation what do i square 4sin^2(x)? all of it or just the x value? sorry if its a daft question?

It's sort of a confusing notation, but you just square the sin(x) part.

4sin^2(x) = 4 [sin(x)]^2

For some other examples,

You'd square the x part if it was 4sin(x^2)

or

You'd square the entire thing if it was [4sin(x)]^2
