Maintenance Grant - Self supported ...my Payslips? :S watch

I applied for my 09/10 student loans last year and only recently got them (in mid Jan 2010). However on the forms I filled online there was no mention of a maintenance grant, and it wasn't until talking to a friend recently that I heard about them.

So I called Student Finance up today who said cause I was self supported I need to send them my last payslips from jobs over the past 3 years.

The problem is I doubt i'll have them all. I've had a few jobs, and there has been 2 occasions where I was briefly on Jobseekers allowance.

What can I do for the blank periods I will have? ...suerely there has to be an alternative means for them to find out that I've worked etc from things like NI contributions?

    Any help is greatly appreciated

It may be possible to send them any payslips you DO have, alongside well-highlighted print-outs of your bank statements for those periods. You'll have to check that this is acceptable, though.

Simplest thing to do would be to call your local tax office and ask them for a letter showing details of your income for the last 3 years.

I used to work in an LEA processing student finance forms and this type of letter was always accepted by us (as long as the income was at a reasonable level)

can you explain what you mean by "reasonable level"? is there an acceptable minimum or maximum income?!
