I think my course is around there too, i went for collum hall as my first option, as its nearer than talybont to town/the course but closeish to Talybont where lots of others may be.
Cool. Which course are you going for? I am a post-grad student, so Colum road and Senghennydd sound the best.

I'm currently at cardiff university and i adore it! it's so cheap, everyone is friendly its not so big a uni that you never recognise faces when walking around and not too small that everyone knows your business.....and the nights out are EPIC!
anyways, I'm fairly sure if you're choosing halls you already know this.
I currently live in Taly South and l honestly promise you that south is the place to be. Talybont is the biggest and best student residences tbh, there's always something going on!!
Taly North is okay, lively but the rooms are smaller/not as nice and the kitchens are awkward.
South has ensuites, the houses are either in flats of 4,6 or 8. majority of which are mixed...south is situated right inbetween north and court and consists of around 24 houses.
From what I've heard about taly court they're nice houses and everything but no where near as social as south and are more expensive.
honestly, if you are going to uni not just to study but as an experience then South is definitely the place to be.
Even if you're studying engineering or medicine, the walk there and back may be far but that's such a small price to pay to be in the best halls!
If anyone wants any more info/has questions about talybont pm me!!

thks for the info...i ll start looking out for the halls u mentioned
CompSci is halfway between Gordon and Senghennydd, and the student houses and Colum Hall are the next closest after that.

I don't think you can go in Colum Hall, here's the list of Postgrad residences:

Hey, my course is at the Bute building, and what I gather from the map is that Talybont is really far. Senghennydd seems the closest, followed by Colum Road. Am I right? Which other options are suitable?
Colum Road is much closer than Senghenydd, partly because you don't have to cross a railway line to get onto campus.

You could also look at the other student houses, most of which are in little side streets behind the Union:

So I sent my application... I put Gordon as my top choice and Senghenydd Court and Hall after that. Gordon seems to be less popular than other halls, does that mean I'm more likely to get a place there?

It's also a lot smaller than most of the others! Most people seem to get one of their top 3 choices so you should get one of those 3 :yep:

Well, let's hope that. I picked something smaller because I thought that too many people would eventually start getting on my nerves

Although Gordon isn't separated out into flats (unlike everywhere else) so you might end up with more people to deal with in the end :P

I'm gonna be at Heath Park and it's not letting me apply for anywhere except allensbank, taly north and uni hall. Should I just say I'm an "all other courses" student? It's not going to matter to accommodation is it?

Nope, you can't smoke anywhere on campus. Which in practice means that people smoke outside the halls/uni buildings.

I put Allensbank as my first choice in the end. I'm up at Heath Park so I can just roll into lectures in the morning.

Does anyone know what the chances are of people getting their first choices if they have an unconditional firm and they applied now-ish?
