# I'm stupid. watch

1. I know this may be really easy but how exactly do you do this.

I'm trying to do this by the long division method but I'm stuck.

It's from the Edexcel Heinemann C4 book, looking at the solutions is not helping either.

2. Without your working, it's tricky. But x^2 goes into x^3 x times. And then when you take x^3 - x^2 off you've no x^2 tern left at all.

So the units term is 0 and you're left with a remainder
3. -3x * -3 is +9x

+4x^2 - -6x^2 is +10x^2

-19x - -9x is -10x

4. But the point I don't get is how does the book go from here

which is part of the original improper fraction which I have to get into a partial fraction.

Into this

which is the solution for this part taken from the Solutionbank from the CD.
5. they just did a bit of algebraic long division, that was C2 or C3

I think he's asking how did they get

-3x^3 + 4x^2 - 19x + 8 / x^2 + 2x - 3

from

- sorry if I understood your post wrong... I think you're explaining how to calculate -3x^3 + 4x^2 - 19x + 8 / x^2 + 2x - 3 instead of telling him how did the book get that from the initial form. Am I right?

This.

Look's like people don't get my post.

Basically I'm having trouble calculating this So I look into the solutions and I get this ( confusing me even further)

8. Looks like.......the solution is answering a different question.
9. I'm guessing it's a mistake too, so is this right then.... (Sorry done this using paint on my laptop )

Can't seem to go any further.
