At the end of December I had a spinal operation to remove a small amount of my disc and vertebrae. Clearly this meant I was pretty immobile for quite a while and so whilst I used to go to the gym a couple of times and week to do some medium weights and cardio I effectively stopped and 2 months on I feel I need to get my general fitness back up. Heavy weights are out of the question obviously so what would be the best plan of action?

Maybe some gentle swimming as it is low impact, and works the whole body.
Didn't you discuss returning to exercising again with your surgeon?
I personally would go and see a doctor to get the best advice on when/ how to start exercising again. Don't do too much too soon- take it slowly.
