I've been offered a mini-pupilage at Tooks Chambers. Does anyone have any experience with a mini-pupilage here? Did you find it valuable? What kind of work did you do?

I did a mini at Tooks. I was with 3 other minis ps and we observed a very well known (long) trial at the bailey for a week in the middle of the trial. In the week before the clerk (over the phone when arranging my first day) had said I could see something different every day, but after the first day the barrister said we were welcome to stay all week and the clerk was fine with this when we let her know. Barrister was a good guy, bought us lunch and we chatted to him and the others involved at lunch each day, so got good tips on procedure, they avoideded the pupillage subject and how tough it is. It was my most enjoyable mini because of the trial itself and not having to trail round like a spare part as you do when going from court to court trying to find different people twice a day on other minis. Practically, i didn't do any attendance noting, trial bundle prep or drafting which I have done on other minis, nor did I even go to chambers, but conversley I have lots to say about it and am quite good mates with one of the other mini ps now too. I guess my answer is it will depend on what is available to see. If you want to see family one day and crime the next etc I am sure they can arrange it.Last edited by FMQ; 09-02-2010 at 17:59.
