He can act like a right idiot sometimes but I have a lot of respect for the man, he lost his fortune in the 80s, and persisted to build it back up and built up an empire. The reality TV shows don't really bother me since I watch them all.
Plus he is hot in a weird way!

he is a snob :P:

I think he's an abomination, and a glorified 'rich' man just because he puts himself in front of Britain's middle/working class....reality check - he's not that rich certainly not as much as he pretends to be. He's nothing but a goldfish compared to the real rich, but then they have the dignity and self respect to not act like they're a God.
If I could choose one person to execute it would be him, he's ruined music, he's trying to take over the charts...and now that he's starting his own movie production company to rival disney it looks like he's set to ruin movies too
Girls say he's powerful...wtf what power? the power to put some kids on a show and make some cheesy bullcrap xmas single out of it? ....power indeed
I wish I had a SR-72 Blackbird fighter jet armed with a dozen missiles so I could wipe him out personally.

Although many people dislike him he has managed to start a new, worldwide, phenomenon of talent shows. There have been countless success stories because of him and he has managed to make many people's dreams come true. He has also managed to show that it is possible to become famous if you have an actual talent.
I think that our culture has showed him that he is very successful and has probably caused him to have such a large ego. As for why he is a celebrity, he is probably not the best manager (or whatever he is) but he has found a niche in the music industry and fully exploited it.

What I think of him: He appears as a tool on TV, but he is generally right. Apparently he's a tool in real life too though, my friends aunt works for ITV and so have met him.
What impact you think he has on our culture: A relatively large one. He gotten Christmas number one a few times (with the exception of 2009 ) and when audiences hear he has another show coming out, if the like shows like The X Factor, they are bound to watch it. Think how popular BGT is, purely because it's by SyCo Productions.
Why he is the way he is (how culture has shaped him): Because it's what we expect from judges - one of them has to be a tool. Nasty Nigel was the first one, when talent shows first started. Even Dancing On Ice has one (Jason) and that's not even a SyCo thing.
How he has so much power: His company is huge, he has great contacts and he's usually right about cultural things. And the consumers give him power by watching his programmes and thereby increasing his profits.
Why he is classed as a celebrity: Because he appears on TV. Simple as. He's well known (for beign well-known, imo, it's not like he does a lot except for judge and produce - and msot producers aren't famous) He gives himself judge spots on his own shows, and makes sure he's always talked about in the news (think of the "sanving Jedward scandal" late last year).

He;s someone who's finally discovered that a single with more advertisement will do better than a single with more quality but no marketing.
Also, with the current state of the UK music industry, you just need to release a single and have it played every day to get to #1.
So he creates a mega-advertising campaign called X Factor. not only that, but the show gets heavily edited and influenced to create sob stories and happy endings, as well as hand picking contestants to even make it through to the first audition stage.
I dislike that he has gained money in such a hollow way and injected manufacturing into the heart of our music industry. Now it's all we have left. That and 'rock' bands trying to be American.

He seems full of himself, but he's good at what he does and he knows how to earn serious dosh at the same time.
Even though I really can't stand "The X factor."
You gotta hand it to him, he knows how to play the game.

"Arrogant and right is surely better than humble and wrong?" ... that wasn't me it was Geoff Arbuthnot , but it works for Simon Cowell He may be arrogant but actually, Louis and Cheryl are much meaner than him because he tells the truth, gives some advice, and helps people. Louis and Cheryl say "Oh you are fantastic, I love you so much, But its a no...". I think he is gorgeous and very talented and therefore has the right to control the music industry. He picks good songs for people and helps them to fulfill their life's ambitions. I love him xxx
