Would anyone recommend doing an intensive easter revision course at a private sixth form centre for a week or so? The only problem is, it would be only one subject (I don't know which to choose!) and it would be instead of a week at school. My parents seem to think it's a good idea, but I don't really think it will help. It's so expensive, too. But if anyone has any experience of these sorts of things, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Ok, the one problem I have heard with Easter revision courses is that you tend to get a lot of people all shut up in one place for a week, who basically use it as an excuse to socialise/go out/get very drunk and do a bit of revision on the side. I'm not saying that is true for all of them, so pick and choose which one you go to carefully. If you find a good one, you will most probably find it quite helpful, especially with exam technique etc. My tutor actually does Chemistry as well, and I think he is planning on running revision courses over Easter. He is incredibly good, I would thoroughly recommend him. I can get the details for you if you like. I know it's a long shot because it won't be residential, and you probably don't live anywhere near me, but if he is doing them I would recommend him.

I have never been on one myself, so I can't speak from personal experience, just hearsay.

Ah okay. They are really expensive too, more than we can really afford. I am just so stuck with what to do. I had a huge fight with my mum about everything, on mothers day I don't think I'm going on my family holiday to Egypt anymore, either. I don't think I'll do enough work out there, so I might be staying behind.

I live on the south coast, between Portsmouth and Brighton.

I think you should go on the holiday, as if you stay behind you will likely regret it and not to ne work ne way! Go away and take your work. A change of scenary can help you revise... plus sunbathing is one of the best ways I have found to get focused and revise

Really??!! i'm not sure i agree... holidays are nice to get a change of scenary and all ..but - its so much harder to motivate yourself to work.. when you could be swimming in the sea or sunbathing or whatever else u'd rather be doing! especially when the rest of the family are! (believe me- i'v been there so many times) at least if u stay home- u'l be focused on getting the work done .. coz u knw u r missing a holiday so u wont miss it for nothing! also.. holidays are fun.. but they last a few days/weeks.. not to be melodramatic.. but this extra work could sort u out for life..

Yep i got offer from Briz. and rejection from cambs .. i heard a few weeks ago too bout notts- but yer- track took ages to update lol

i dunno- in my case i loved nottingham.. probably the most actually but i live in london and have a dog and if i didnt get into the RVC i would have to give him up i know thats a silly way to chose unis but i couldnt face giving him up unless i really had to..

btw.. 2 every1 who is worried bout gap-yearing/reapplying.. i have been wanting to be a vet for bout 5 years.. and i never applied because i knew my application was lacking in one way or another.. and then i decided 2 years ago that i was gonna build up my application and just apply!.. i didnt care how long it would take..

but thanks to all the time thats gone by (u gain so much experience u dnt realise u will) i'v had some offers.. so even though its devastating now.. u WILL get in .. it'l jus take time.. jus dnt give up:yes:
awesome thats sooo good to get 2! ooh ok well that makes perfect sense! i couldnt ever stand giving up my dog!

I don't know what I should do. My dad really isn't keen on me staying at home because it's our last family holiday together and I do really, really want to go, but I know I won't get as much work done.

awh that's awesome and nope nothing well, on hold for bristol

steph maybe if you go on holiday it will help you relax a bit and you wont get as stressed out about your exams which would work out better? if you're getting 90%+ on your mocks then you obviously know your stuff. i know if i get too worked up about things then trying to revise is just pointless, and you'll be in a nice environment to work rather than just stuck in a library/bedroom

I have decided I want Rachel McAdams (as a brunette). She'll get over the age difference in time, and we'll be happy :yep:

But how many gap years and rejections do u take before you have to have a re-think. I applied last year and got rejected, struggled to get work exp this year on my gap year but the qualifications I have and exp booked are much better than last year...and Ive been rejected AGAIN. Dont wanna give up but not sure how much more I can take, I dont wanna be at home again for another year but I equally dont wanna give up on bein a vet. its sooo confusing. Im pushing 21 already and dont know what to do now x
As others have mentioned, get feedback. As long as you can improve your application, and as long as your desire remains strong, you can keep reapplying.
If you think you've given it your best shot, that nothing can improve and you still don't get in; well, maybe that's a time to really reconsider. But until then, as long as it's realistic, don't let anything stop you.

    It's not one week, it's two >.<
If it was one week I'd be fine with it.

my friend did a couple of day long courses from chemistry last year, she said they were really useful and she managed to go from a C at AS
to an A in every module at A2, I can try and find out where it was as you live pretty near me

Lambing was awesome I did ended up staying 12 hours, then with work today I'm absolutely shattered. Not much actually lambed as it was between their two batches, but I got to help out with tubing some weak ones, feeding orphans, helping some to suckle, spraying cords, docking tails and everything. I loved it, can't wait for next Saturday!

Edit - Steph, if I were you I'd go on the holiday and perhaps try to alternate days of holiday stuff with days of working? I don't really know anything about the intensive revision courses though, I've never really heard of them tbh.
