well according to the Nott's website:

Can I take an intercalated degree?

Yes, it could be possible to integrate a Masters or PhD at Nottingham, and BSc degrees elsewhere, subject to funding constraints.

Hope that clears things up xx

I don't really understand the point of intercalation, is it just for the glory of having another qualification? i guess it would be interesting to learn more about something you were really interested in not sure if thats worth another year of uni fees though, also why does it have to be such a hard word to say, maybe its just me being retarded :P

I think I would like to intercalate, when else are you going to be able to get two degrees for just an extra year! You can apply for funding and grants from loads of different groups as well; from talking to someone who intercalated at Bristol he got so much funding that it paid his tuition and living costs for the whole year, plus extra money to go on holiday with! At Bristol you can apply to intercalate at RVC or Liv too, Liv have a degree in Conservation Medicine that looks really interesting, and at Bristol there is Animal Behaviour & Welfare as well as more 'sciency' options like genetics and parasitology. I think the way they run it is that you can intercalate in any of the 'para-clinical' subjects you study in 3rd year.

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure that is what LM said at the talk and on the open day.

If you intercalculate at other unis can you pick ne degree or are you given a small selection to pick from ?
Yeah you can pick pretty much anything biology wise i think, you can even go to another university if you want: Liverpool and RVC have special intercalated degrees.

Intercalation, as far as i am aware, is for people who want to go on to research when they graduate so when you qualify you are a bit more specialised in your chosen field I am not sure there is a reason to do an intercalated degree if you just want to be a normal vet though other then having another degree to offer?

My plan is to travel and work - possibly Aus where I can go for 4 months-ish and earn some money too. And do some work exp over there which would be pretty amaze. Maybe find somewhere u can work, do wrk exp & have a great time? That might work! And I kno a friend of mine isn't allowed on her own but she's allowed to come with me, so maybe go with someone else?

Ha my parents just want to get rid of me, would probs even pay to send me to the other side of the world:rolleyes:

At liverpool, can you decide to intercalate halfway through your D100 course, or do you HAVE to apply to the D101 course to do that?

Just remembered what you said about your work experience ages ago and you got rejected from Liverpool. Did they explain why it wasn't enough experience?

And glasgow obvo have filled all there offers they want to give out but lets say 50 decline them then they free up 50 places so then they may offer you a place....upon which you either accept as firm/insurance or decline. You can apply for accom at both of your insurance and firm and you should do this, last year a friend of mine only applied for accom at her firm...didnt get in then didnt have any where to live so had to run around like mad trying to find a house that was free and of good standards!! I hope this helps!!
Thanksss very much! what if you have the same offer from both unis whats the point in putting one as your firm and one as your insurance? because both edinburgh and glasgow give offers to scottish students as BB, so then i was wondering if someone puts their firm as edinburgh and their insurance as glasgow (2 of my friends are doing this) do they still have a place at glasgow or does it free up a place for me ? im so confused because i asked about the waiting list and they told me they didnt rank it untill august.. so how can they give out offers in may if they dont rank the waiting list till august :| ????

That's not what I meant, I know what it feels like. There's nothing we can do but wait and stressing out isn't gonna change anything. :woo:

intercalation is not only for those looking to go into research. What you really learn in the extra year is to analytically asses a situation. So that when you come to be a vet you can apply these skills to diagnosis, ie collect relevant information about problem then assess possible causes and how to resolve. Most unis reckon the intercalting students make better vets in the long run due to the extra skills they leave Uni with.
