I had the same problem to find information on the internet. Although it says on the UCL website it's the oldest hall, there is hardly any information you can get.

@Nysh: When are you moving in? Already before the 24th as it said on my offer? Well, see you in Goldsmid in september then.

How come no one seems to know anything about Goldsmids...?!! I'll be moving in the 20th.

I asked the same question at the UCL Discussion Forum, and here's a link that posed some answers.

I'm going to International orientation, but am moving in on the 24th.

Sorry to drag this up, but has anyone asked if you're allowed mini fridges in this hall?

Strictly no... but i was told to bring one!

Basically there is one small fridge in each kitchen and considering that there are about 10-12 people in each kitchen, you should definitely take one if you are actually planning on cooking your own food. There is just not enough fridge space for that many people!

Did you call them and ask? I was in Astor in my first year and we werent allowed toasters in our rooms. Were easy enough to hide if needs be. A fridge isnt so though!

Nah, i actually went there! No one is going to clean your room and so there's no one to hide the mini fridge from. It's really up to you though.

according to the letter, don't you have to ask though?

Also how much would a mini fridge actually cost?

In fact, do you have any other wise tips? (just because you stayed there).

Thanks

lol, i meant i went there to see the place and not that i went there last year... my dad hadn't seen the university i got a place for and wanted to see it before i started and so i just thought it'll be a good idea to see the accommodation at the same time as showing me around - soz for the misunderstanding...

the guy who showed me around said to me a few things that might be of use (he stayed there before and is doing his summer job at the halls)

you can't use file share programs like LimeWire, WinMX, Kazaa...etc.

taking the bus or train takes as long as walking to university (it is a very long walk though... but i'd prefer walking to spending ages for a bus or train any day)

about the halls

there are only 2 shared rooms in the whole halls!

new bathrooms!!!

computer room is absolutely fantastic... very modern, very clean and looks more like an office tbh!

there's a TV room with a piano in it

kitchen is a bit ridiculously tiny tbh...

rooms are fantastic though, and look nothing like that awful picture of them in the student accommodation booklet - nothing at all. Desks are make of wood and not cheap plastic and it's much larger than it looks in that awful picture.

The rooms have been modernised, so if you thought that you'll be living in a building that has never been modernised since the sixties like i did initially don't worry. There is no holes in the ceiling, the place doesn't shake when buses go by and the walls havent got paint peeling off them!

Hope that helps!

I just got the same guy to take me around. The rooms are much larger than I thought, end even though the whole place looks a bit dingy from the outside it's quite nice from the inside (at least for £80/week in central London)

New carpets for a lot of the areas, and lots of big windows (so it's quite bright).

The kitchens are scabby, and not very nice, considering I don't actually know how 15 people are going to cook in there. It's the biggest downside to the whole thing. It's a good idea to bring in your own fridge, because apparently they don't mind too much (plus your milk won't get stolen!)

But otherwise, it's alright.

Anyone excited/ scared?

Hey,
Just wondering whether there's much space at Goldsmid to park and unload?

Cheers
