i have a 53 plated renault megane (one of the bum style ones).
this morning when i put the wipers on, the service light kept coming on. it only came on when the wipers were actually on. i opened up the bonnet when i got to work, and i think the washers may be empty. i also cleared some debris away from where the wiper arm joins the car. the other thing i noticed was that the motor didn't make any noise, which is what usually happens when the pipes are blocked from ice. however, it's does this before and it's worked fine again after it's warmed up. the wipers are still working fine though.

i don't know whether it was the cold, the debris, the lack of water in the washer bottle, or the fact that the auto sensor was covered in ice and it confused it.. but has anyone had this problem before?

Read the manual to see what the light means relative to wipers?

    Does it still work?

Has the light gone out now?

If Yes to both questions, then don't worry about it!

There might be a sequence to put the car into "diagnostic mode" which will, if the problem is fixed, turn the light off.

I did this when the airbag light came on after a cable under the seat became loose. It involved switching the ignition on (but not the engine) counting to 5, switching off, counting to 5, switching back on. Or something to that effect. It worked for me. Some googling might find you the sequence for the Megane.

You can take it to the Renault garage and they will hook it upto their computer to diagnose the cause... they will usually do this free of charge and put you under no obligation to get it fixed there.
