Which Degree?

hi Im thinking about becoming a teacher or going into something with IT such as systems analysis, however I dont know what degree to chose, Information Technology or Computer Science?

Have any of you been in the same position, if so what degree did you do? :confused:

Since you want to become a teacher, you could do a BEd in Information Technology. Alternatively, do a BSc degree in Information Technology or Computer Science which lasts for 3 years, then do a PGCE in the future which lasts for 1 year.

If you don't know what degree to chose, read the course content of the courses Information Technology and Computer Science to see which one you like best. Each university will have similar or different course contents. Read which course in the university that interests you.

I have been in this situation, however, with different types of IT/Computing courses. In the end, I chose Internet Computing, as I like the networking, communications, and web stuff, etc.

From my own experience of teaching ICT in an English secondary school, I'd say it's very different to computer science. ICT seems to be about using computer packages and things like that, with a bit of background theory on stuff like networks when you get to AS/A-Level work. Computer science at universities is much more about theory of computing, programming (and not only in VB, which seems to be the popular choice for ICT in schools), etc. So if you're interested in the kind of stuff taught in ICT in schools, I guess a degree in IT would probably be a better bet (though I don't know about IT at degree level to be fair).
As trev says, have a look at the course contents of a few CS and IT courses and see which sort of things you'd prefer to learn. I'd probably recommend the CS/IT degree then PGCE route rather than jumping straight in with a BEd IT as you seem undecided about exactly what you want to do and with the first route you'll have a bit more flexibility than the second.
