im a student who didnt get the grades to get into medicine gt bbb and i now need to pick between these two subjects..which one do you guys thing i should choose..

i know with qmul i prefer its medicine school more than sgul and also its more diversified but with sgul theres a chance of getting into medical school after first year if you get high enough percentage..

but the trouble is are you going to get the high percentage to move over to med

any way have you looked at the unis, the module listing what do you think you will enjoy more, pick the dergee you are happy with, no point spending 3 years hating it

or take a year out resit A-levels to get the As you need for med school

im already on a gap year and had bcc grades and hopefully will be pushing them onto bbb..im doing legacy syllabus so cant resist in summer to push them even higher..i like both the course its just i dont really like st georges as theres not a wide vairety of people there...the only push factor for me going there is the less number of years i might have to do if i work hard enough even then im not sure about st georges medical school as i prefer barts.

Well if you do Biomed at QMUL, you can get into Med school after the third year (if you do well enough).

May be a bit late for that now though... :dontknow:

No, its not after the 1st year, its after the 3rd year - as in you graduate from biomed before you start. Also you need to get 67% consistantly over your first two years. It doesnt sound like much, but try getting 67% in a medicine+biomed exam each semester, im sure most people would be just happy to pass. I'm not trying to put you off, just helping you make a more informed descion.

Also do something which your going to enjoy! Its 3 years, which go quickly, but are VERY TOUGH. Do something you'll be able to put up with. However, SGUL does have an amazing biomed course, which gives you a great foundation on which to read medicine in afterwards. - if thats what you want to do.

I am at the same stage as you. I am, however, still doin A2 and am predicted A*AA, but I am applying to medical genetics now. 3 years there doesn't sound so bad. And if I take a gap yr and don't get med next yr, i would feel i made a big mistake. QMUL, however still haven't got back to me. I don't know how many people apply there for medical genetics. do u?

from my group i was the only guy who applied to medical genetics and from the surprise of the tour girl i dont think there was an applicant for it in her previous group.she told me its very specific the course but in first year a lot of lectures are mixed with other biological sciences students and its really until the second year where it really differentiates

p.s i dont think there is a specific medical genetics open day as the one i went to on 2nd march was for all applicants applying for a course in the school of biological and chemical sciences.so the one on 24th will be like that no just for medical genetics

I've got a question for those who applied for Biomed. or other similar courses to apply for Medicine afterwards, and I would really appriciate if you could answer : how do you plan to pay for Biomedicine and Medicine? Student Finance had told that they give Student loans only for one Bachelor degree.

apparently all decisions for medical genetics were made by Friday, so if the UCAS status doesn't say anything about an offer, you are rejected.

yes i initially applied for biomed which i gt offer for but then changed my course to med gen as i preferred the course modules and also it was something different than ur normal enrty into med course.

i gt my medical genetics offer l8 feb..if u still havent heard from them now i guess ur chances of getting made an offer are dim but the course is very specialisd so u might still have sum chnce as not many ppl apply for it
