Hi! I had applied for Biomed.. but as mine was a late application, they said that they had already filled all of the places for biomed and that i could apply for an alternative course and gave me a list..
From the list I put Genetics as my top choice and Medical Genetics as my second!
Although I would've prefered biomed as I dno if i cn put up with Genetics for THREE years????

I'm looking to apply for graduate entry medicine after doing the course too though! Let's see how it goes!

if u want to go into medicine then why did u put medical genetics as your second choice lol as the crse will be more medically related than doing genetics by itself...im hoping to do get into graduate entry medicine too

Final year Medical genetics student here. If you want to do post graduate medicine get your skates on now. I mean it. Get out there and sort out your work experience. If you don't then why should they pick you over a biomed who has no work experience. You need to be able to answer the question 'So why do you want to do Medicine when you have a specialised knowledge in Genetics?'

The truth is that the Med Gen course here actually has a lot of genetics to it and very little medical part to it. That comes into foreplay in your final year and in the outside reading you have done.

You need to work just as hard as you will be pitted again the biomeds who you will share numerous modules with. On top of that, be prepared for competition. Perhaps not so much in your first year but after that. There is so much.

just finished my first year of MedGenetics... it's exactly the same in first year as Genetics bar one module which is shared with the Biomedics. Also, about 70% of people on the course are hoping to get into medicine afterwards ie. competition is fierce :emo:
