    Good morning,

I've made a petition on the number 10 website:

    http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/ALG-Bonuses/

I think it is unfair that students who receive EMA get paid bonuses, whilst ALG recipients do not! Both are means tested in the same way.

The household income brackets for financial year 2008-09:
    "up to £20,817 - £30 per week
    £20,818 - £25,521 - £20 a week
    £25,522 - £30,810 - £10 a week
more than £30,810 - no entitlement" Source: direct.gov.uk

The above is the same for EMA and ALG

So an EMA recipient on £30 per week is in the same household income bracket as a ALG recipient also on £30.

So why do they both not receive bonuses?

I think the ALG recipients are being put at a disadvantage, just because of their age!

Ageism - "prejudice or discrimination on the grounds of age." Source: Oxford English Dictionary

    Thank you

I've moved this to the General Secondary School, Sixth Form and FE College forum as it's more relevant, there.
