It is in the bill, I'll copy and paste the relevant section for you:

    (1) The Bill Enactment clause shall be changed to the following:

“BE IT ENACTED by the present Parliament assembled, in accordance with the provisions of the Parliament Acts 1911 and 1949, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-“

Yes, I was hoping someone had come up with a better one than that.

You see, the Parliament Acts of 1911 and 1949 would render the benefits of a second elected chamber totally moot.

Because the power of the upper chamber is severely hindered by those two acts. Thus, the power vested by the people in the upper house would be rendered useless.

Ok sorry I've been having a bit of a blond moment. I'm writing some new wording now and creating a new section to go in with the House of Lords Reform part of the bill. I'll present it with the Second Reading.

    .
    Fail.

Aren't there more pressing issues than starting a mini-class war with the Royals. :o:

The current ‘United Kingdom’ shall become known as The Commonwealth of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or ‘Commonwealth of Britain’ for the short title
Would not "United Commonwealth" be a better title?

    House of Lords section
Just start from scract; a House of Lords without Lords because they don't have titles.
Look, just abolish the system for Pete's sake and start from sratch, rather than all this wasting time of striiping Lords of titles and re-elected them and shiz.

In fact, this whole thing is a watse of time... how about, you just wait for the new constitution and let everything come along as it is.

Say: this Parliament must have established a new constitution by x-amount of time and everything atm will run as par until then.

Because you've already set up like atleast 25% of one, and its all a bit shoddy and shabby in the middle as much as round the edges.

Sorry I'm so critical, but all this bill is is a nitpicking of people who happen to have titles which makes you feel inferior.

I don't believe 'United Commonwealth' would be a better title, a commonwealth doesn't need the united prefix because it tends to already imply a collection of states.

Also, a mini class war with the royals? If Tory's are going to label every democratic reform as a class war then we perhaps have problems. The royal family is treated extremely respectfully in this bill - all it does is take away their unearned position in the British political system.

Wait for the new constitution and let things happen? That would be mad, how can I ask people to vote for a new system if they don't know what they are voting for? I kept the name of the House of Lords purely for means of tradition within Parliament, indeed any serious proposal for constitutional change within the RL government have also gone for keeping the name. I don't know what you mean about "stripping of titles just to have re-elected" because this bill reduces the number of lords to 200, and being an ex-lord only gives you a certain amount of qualification to stand for election - you still have to compete with all of the other qualified people.

However the House of Lords reform is a tough subject, as I mentioned a few posts a go I am open to new ideas so long as the 'unfair' and unmeritable element is eliminated.

Sorry I'm so critical, but all this bill is is a nitpicking of people who happen to have titles which makes you feel inferior.
That isn't what this bill is about at all, not in the slightest. This bill is about actually installing a democratic system in Britain whereas currently our head of state and the positions of half of our Parliament (literally) are decided by accident of birth - that in my opinion is not only unfair but also slightly ridiculous.

Please, at least consider this bill? It keeps many of the traditions which make the Westminster system so brilliant and inspiring for countries all around the world, yet at the same time it makes it as near to a merit based system as possible imo.
