Hello . I have have applied for DSA support and on the back of my assessment is a quote for equipment from a supplier. My assesor explained that when the DSA is approved the funding will go directly into my bank acount and I would then have to call the supplier and give them the quote reference numer. At the bottom of the report is say that i am not restricted to using this supplier. So does this mean that I can go else where to get my equipment?

I would have thought you can, but having given you a limited fund in your account it probably would limit your choice.

When did you apply for your DSA? I'm about to send mine off and wondering about the time frame of it being done.

Unless they have totally changed the system you won't get any money at all in your bank account. Last year I was told what I was getting and who was supplying it. I never was involved with money at all. I know it says they can pay the money to you but they much prefer to give it to the supplier direct. All I could have negotiated was an upgrade at my expense if I had wanted it.

Some people will try to tell you that you can't apply until you have your A level results. This is wrong.According to 'Bridging The Gap'

you can apply before. Indeed last year I had applied, been assessed, got my equipment and had my training before my results came out.
Apply now is my advice, especially when you read the utter debacle that was DSA applications last year with loads of people still not assessed.

Thanks, I've already got my form thanks to my student finance application. So I'll get it off by the end of the weekend! But with any luck they will have sorted themselves out this year.

Yeh I received my equipment a couple of weeks ago (applied in September, Assessed in December) and they said their policy now is everyone is given the report with 3 quotes from suppliers, the LEA/SFE depending on your year will decide who then you contact the supplier to agree a delivery day. The only thing you can control OP is if you want something like a better harddrive on your laptop and then you pay the difference.
