true but chances of him getting lung cancer certainly increased because of his mother smoking around him
The chances of him getting lung cancer increased because of the existence of car exhaust fumes. Did the Department for Transport kill him? Being around bonfires involves inhaling carcinogens - did Guy Fawkes kill him?

You're obviously a troll, but some people apparently think this way in the real world. Which is very worrying indeed.

Because it is not something you HAVE to do, you do it for pleasure.
People do different things for pleasure, if it happens to harm them, so what?

the question is when you have harmless alternatives by the tons, why still choose such a disgusting/harmful (to others also) thing as smoking?

yes, because then people will start doing whatever they want with the same excuse.....and it is indirectly supporting an industry of death that harms other people as well, so it is not a personal thing anymore.....

You never have to stand next to a smoker when they light up, they are all outside in the fresh air now where it dissipates rapidly. If you are going to complain about that also complain about auto mobile pollution which is just as bad.

there are groups of people who smoke and have friends standing with them who do not smoke, they are harming them, the death industry is growing stronger by the day, and what about places where there are no regulations for where to smoke? or where ignorance is prevalent?

    Right...

But they have chosen to stand next to the smoker so that is their choice to get 'harmed'

not everyone is in the position to make such a choice, some smokers have kids around them, some have old people who have no where else to go around them!!!

Your Mum did not kill your Grandad, there is every chance he would have got lung cancer anyway.
    (Original post by L i b)
First off, old people die - getting to 69 is not bad in the grand scheme of human progress. Secondly - you can get lung cancer without being near tobacco smoke. You're essentially making assumptions based upon a massive logical fallacy if you really believe what you've just said: you cannot assume causes for a disease without actually investigating it.
I know all of this, but I'm grieving. It helps to blame something.

How the **** do old people have no where else to go around them you moronic imbecile? If people are smoking outside, where does it state in the law that others must stand AROUND them? If you're bothered, you move away. Or you ask the smoker to move away, depending on who occupied that region first.

Any responsible smoker that smokes at home, will smoke outside if they have kids. Your argument is pointless.

On the specific point of children, we generally assume that parents are the best people to raise their children, unless the opposite is demonstrated.

Well this also makes your assumptions that certain smokers are IRRESONSIBLE pointless, seeing as it works both ways. Use your brain.

no it is not pointless, because that "some" irresponsible smokers can cause many problems to others, whether kids or the elderly......

the cigarette industry should be banned, it is one of the few industries that openly sells "death/slow death" and is advertised vigorously
