well using the word ****** to describe chavs and low class people is........
    1) Incorrect. You cant just go changing the meaning of words with clear definitions expecting people to know what you're going on about.
    2) Assuming that all black people are chavs and low class is a negative generalisation and thus still racist.

If you really meant low class chav like people, you would have said exactly that.

    You FAILED
    - Words are used in different contexts.

    - The general sentiment of this thread has been "racism happens, get over it". If this is a defeatist attitude, then so be it. It most likely stems from an acceptance of the human condition, and that energy is wasted in things that are difficult to change.

The man/woman/thing called Raj is an idiot. According to his reasoning, since racism is 'natural' we should all just give in. What if I have this natural urge to steal, or to put an axe through my neighbour? Do I give in and do it Raj? It's natural after all...

Really? I swear he was preparing for a massive march soon?
Indeed he was, but his message of non violent action was starting to lose its influence particularly among black youth, and his form of protest wasn't working in the Northern black ghettoes as much as it had in the more openly racist South.

Plus, he was shifting focus to more socialist aims.

You're still more likely to go to prison than to get a degree if you're black. Ethnic minorities are still highly underrepresented in politics/management levels of business/ academic etc. Is the country going to survive much longer like this?
Perhaps the prison thing is nothing to do with racism.

Perhaps they're under represented because they aren't the best men for the job.

Yeah I agree, what an idiotic thing to say.

Anyway OP, of course things have changed! Don't be silly, when my grandparents came in the 1950s the ignorance and predjudice they faced is something I couldn't imagine. Even in the 1970s teachers could be casually racist to my mum and so forth. Thankfully the British people are a fundamentally decent and friendly bunch and the country is moving away from a significant white minority - I mean 10% of kids are mixed race today! Attitudes have changed increadibly since 1945, thanks mainly I think to interaction - once people meet say a black person and realise that they are really no different at all it just becomes rude to be, at least obviously, racist towards them....as I said before the British are a decent and tolerant nation. Today as a visible minority I don't feel really that I am ever discriminated particularly against because of my ethnicity.

OK everyone, here is what we we MUST do to prevent this from becoming a threat.

    - we should not be silent about discrimination. Every discrimination should be reported to police
    - vote for parties that are against discrimination - Greens, Liberals etc.
    - educate others

    more ideas?

Racism has gone down. Especially in young kids. But it's still there and quite. It also doesn't change the fact that the police love to stop and search black men (me )and then go around searching white men to make the numbers look good.

    Murder is never fine.

I am just saying that human nature is hard to alter.

    How so?

Racism is the norm in the UK, and it wouldn't change soon.

I think the whole idea of racism is just airy-fairy liberalism, like much of contemporary Western morality. Humans naturally dislike others of different races.
Hmmmmm, I know all the girls i've been with have been a different race from me, maybe I (and they for that matter) have an unnatural fetish?

In anycase, at most i've noticed ridiculous ignorance, but not much of what I would define as racism. Most of the 'racists' I have met are your stereotypical thickies.

There does seem to be a relative lack of concern when it comes to anti-white racism though, which just seems to fuelling the growth of support for the BNP and the likes. To me, it seems this is partly down to a government which is so focused on 'fixing' racism they've become increasingly skittish about anything that might offend ethnic minorities to the point of being just plain patronising towards them. From my observation, anytime a white person wants to question this, it's predominantly other white people who shout them down as being racist. I don't know whether they genuinely believe they are helping defend ethnics or they just enjoy the view from their high horse.

Personally, I think everyone needs to start getting over this **** - the main thing that seems to be keeping racism alive in this country is all the talk about racism. By all means, guard against extremists and explicit discrimination, but it would just be nice if people were just left to it. I guess that is just wishful thinking.

I also think its stayed the same, but its more against white people (I am black btw). A few decades ago it would have been against minorities, but the tables have turned. Because how libertarian this country has become, the problem now is positive discrimination.
