Would I be better off doing English Lit. at A Level, as opposed to Media Studies? Despite Media being infinitely more interesting and relevant it is true that universities, in their infinite academic snobbery, look down on the subject.

So, even though I am interested in the practical aspects, would I be better off with English Lit. to do Public or International relations?

Would it be smarter to take a film making course outside of school?

    Disagree

If you find it more interesting, go for it. No point doing a subject you don't enjoy just because it's more respected.

Academically speaking, then yes you'll be much better off choosing English Lit.

I've ended up doing history because I've been given the impression that more 'traditional' subjects are more respected. However, that doesn't mean you can't take a 'wild module' each term in a media studies course, you'll come out of uni with a BA in English lit and still do some more interesting subjects. Just make sure you go to a uni that lets you choose wild modules and has media related subjects! Oh yeah, and do work experience with media/film companies or what ever interests you. At the end of the day its not only about your degree, its also about your experience.
