Animal dentistry after BDS?

This may be a stupid question but is it possible to be a human dentist (well, obviously you'd be human, but working on humans, you know) but do some specialist animal work? For example, at some zoos when they have animals with complex teeth problems (eg. walruses, lions), they sometimes get a regular dentist in to work on them. Does anybody know how you would go about this? Thanks.

Would it not be better to do the Veterinary Degree and then specialise in dentistry?

You can do equine dentistry, if that interests you.

Lols  Tis only because Dentistry seems the most likely option for me, but I'd love to be able to combine even a tiny ickle part of my career with animals...I'd love to do Vet Med but there is no way I could do the 5 days in an abbatoir, and I'm really not sure I could put animals to sleep...so I figured this seems a nice mix of the two careers, lol!

On the equine dentistry front, how would you go about getting the necessary qualifications?

I'm not sure, but it always came up when I searched for dentistry on UCAS - try looking on there for the entry qualifications.
