Aguero and Godin rejected. Wow...52 million is no joke >_>. Doesn't Aguero have a release clause of 50 million? Would love him at Chelsea tbh lol

David Luiz has been granted the work permit, its just Benfica not agreeing to a deal. They kept him out of the squad for their game last saturday and re-called him for the game on wednesday. I really like the look of this guy, seems like a real good defender, hope we can get him, before monday.

Sky just reported that even though other clubs are interested, we're set to take Luiz and he wants to come. 48 hours.

Nevermind what the press say, there's no way we offered £52m, if we even made any bid.

Luiz is the only real "transfer saga" for us this transfer window, as Carlo has made clear.

Ancelotti had no idea about the pienaar transfer offer either.
But i doubt we'd bid that much. Or that atletico would reject that offer.

Do you think it's just posturing on Romans behalf, to appease unsettled fans? Seems a bit strange to be making these bids with 5 days of the window left, especially at 40m when we turned down a higher bid than that under hicks and gillet in the summer.

I concur. I'd prefer us to target Alexis Sanchez subce I think we lack a bit pace and creativity up front. Great prospect for the future and quite versatile.

mm.. looks like the luiz transfer deal has fallen through. No new defender for us, i guess! Doubt Bruma is going out on loan now.

Reading the Luiz deal is off..

We didn't really need a new CB anyway.

Not sure what to think about this transfer activity. Torres? Why? Ok he was a brilliant striker and he can still deliver at times, but when he made his name in the PL it was because of a ridiculous level of consistency, pace and desire that I doubt will be seen from him again, fine player though he remains.

I don't know what to think really. The club made a mistake in not replacing Carvalho (IMHO, talented as Alex and Ivanovic are), and we've needed a new player up front for years. Trying to atone for it with panic buys in January is not the right solution, imho.

You definitely need a striker. You bought Anelka in a January window (I think), which filled that gap for a while, but it eventually showed that he was aging severely.

Sturridge might eventually turn into a good PL striker, but that might take a few years and several starts.

Our board seems to be useless at negotiating transfers. See Ramires in the summer, took forever, Robinho a few years' ago, Pienaar a few weeks' back, Aguero and Godin last week. I don't blame Benfica, on the one hand we say we're reluctant to pay a few million pounds extra for Luiz, and then the next day we put in a 35-40 million pound bid for Torres. There's a real danger we'll have a squad even weaker than we started with in January, seeing as we've let Van Aanholt and Kakuta go out on loan.

I don't know, I have some feeling we're getting a player by monday.

Reading what Ancelotti said, him being quiet on Torres& saying Drogba can play with anyone including Fernando Torres. Torres handing in the transfer request.

I read somewhere (ill try finding it again) that even though Benfica said the deal is off, that the negotiations will go on through the weekend and we might just get Luiz.
"Chelsea also remain confident that Benfica defender David Luiz will also sign by Monday’s deadline, despite the Portuguese cub announcing they have told the country’s Stock Excahnge the deal is off. Negotiations are expected to continue over the weekend"
    http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news...cle684211.html

Granted not the most reliable source ever, but something that could be taken in to consideration. So yeah this is why I have a feeling we'll have A player by monday. But wouldn't be surprised if we didn't as well though.
