Had some more carol singers round last night - if any more kids come knocking mumbling we wish you a merry christmas I'll not be held responsible.

So...as it's christmas eve and I *love* carols (despite being an athiest and a really bad singer ) I though it would be nice to find out what people's favourites are...I've included the usual suspects in the poll plus the ones I like best so if your favourite isn't there I'm sorry.

Patience - it posts the question and then I had to rack my brains

Didn't have room for See amid the Winter Snow, As with Gladness or Angels from the Realms (because bloody away in a manger (pass the sick bucket) had to be included)

Little donkey, little donkey
On a dusty road
Got to keep on plodding onwards
With the precious load.
Been a long time little donkey
Thro' the winter's night.
Don't give up now little donkey
Bethlehem's in sight.

Ring out those bells tonight
Bethlehem, Bethlehem.
Follow the star tonight
Bethlehem, Bethlehem.

ahh...

grr...the same reason We wish you a merry christmas isn't included - it's a song not a carol (as is frosty the snowman).

Just realised I missed out we 3 kings (although I don't know anyone who sings the *real* words).

Apart from Silent Night (overdone) and the sickly away in a manger these are all my favourites...all though I've got a soft spot for Ding Dong (any song which includes the line "And i-o i-o i-o" and half an hour of Gloria-ing deserves respect)

I voted for In the Bleak...I like O little town (I used to play to warm up on my recorder)...but it's not quite so touching and a little bit of soppiness at christmas is nice

Even though I hate them and rant on about them I always come over a bit sentimental when they're stood at the door....usually end up chickening out and muttering something about "no money..." until they bugger off.

Where's God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen?
I swapped it out when I remembered O come all ye faithful...partly because O come is more fun to sing and partly because I don't know anyone who doesn't sing God rest ye as:

"God rest ye merry gentlemen let nothing ye dismay (the last bit mumbled),
Di dum di dum di dum di dum was born on christmas day,
To save us from di dum di dum,
And dum di dum di dum,
go-od tiding of comfort and joy, comfort and joy,
go-od tiding of comfort and joy"

The mumbled middle always depresses me a little
