lying to get a job!!

Ok, im planning to go to university in September, and am currently looking for a temporary summer job before I go.
Although I thouht it would be really easy to find a job, no employers want me cos Im going to uni soon :frown:
So do you think its OK for me to lie to my employers and pretend Im not planning to go to uni?! That is the only way im gonna get a job, and besides all the temporary jobs Ive seen are crap pay
Please tell me your thoughts cos Ive had enough of doing nothing all day and having no money to spend!!

I wouldn't lie, but stretch the truth a bit. Maybe say you're considering a uni close to home or something.

Go for it. I said i wasnt going to university even though i am, especially if you're going for a temp job because you can leave your job whenever. I agree with you because when i first started looking no one would employ me because i was going to university so i had to lie. hehe sounds bad really but oh well

You could say that it's more then likely that you'll be going to the uni nearby, then when uni starts say "oh noes it seems I got my first choice somehow/ oops I failed to get into the nearby university so im off byebye". The only problem would be that next holidays you won't be able to apply there again!
My friend said: "everyone lies a bit in interviews".

It isn't as if they won't be able to get someone else when you leave.

True  I wqs asked whether I could touch type, I said yes, I can't though, it's so hard when I've been typing with one finger for years  Quite glad I didn't get the job now, because I was planning to learn it if I did get the job, but trying to learn it is so annoying!

yes, lie

OK then, what im gonna do is apply to loads of permanent full-time jobs so that i can earn a good enough amount of money before uni... and if my results are good I'll justn have to bite the bullet and say "oops Iv just remembered im going to uni, see ya!"
Anyway it isnt a complete lie cos if I dont get good enough grades Im not gonna go to uni anyway

you don't have to lie, just never mention uni. give them the info they require but don't tell them your whole life story.

Yeah but if you tell them that they know your going to leave them in september you see, employers want some commitment. I like Goody's idea I may try that too!

I recently got a job and they asked about my future plans. I just said that I'm waiting to see what my Alevel results are and I will take it from there.
Through chatting with people at work they have mentioned uni etc and I just say that I'm thinking about it and that if I have done well I may consider going. Not mentioning where.
Though where I work (pub) they are constantly looking for part time staff so don't think they would really mind all that much.
I failed to mention it at my job interview...but they didn't ask so I didn't lie!

But the lady said anyway that they get a lot of students looking for a summer job there so it's OK.
I am hoping to go to college in September, so during this sumemr when I was job hunting I never informed them this so it didn't ruin my chances. But still...I am unemployed wasting my time away after many turn downs, bastids!
im lucky as i applied mid march but i know that my employer has the smae attitude towards those going to uni.
It's good to know others are in the same situation. I've been trying for a month or so and havn't even been given an interview. Now that it's August there is no way they're going to employ you if they think you're going to leave in 6 weeks. Think about it this way, you may feel bad that you lied, but they're only using you as cheap labour anyways. Besides, when have companies ever had problem filling vacancies. Screw them basically!

EDIT: I think I'll wait for christmas myself, when shops need a few extra staff. Make sure you apply as early as possible (I think that's the mistake I made this summer).

Absolutely. Bear in mind that most employers have absolutely no loyalty to their employees whatsoever. The first sign of a downturn and you're out on your ass. My advise is to take a similar approach. Lie when necessary, and take the money.

it really depends on how important a job you have and how much trouble the company have to go to to replace you. In my experience their only expense is readvertising the job, and maybe some in house training, so you may as well sscrew them over. I would.
