Fair enough. I don't really blame the guy, by all accounts he does a lot of access work and it must get frustrating dealing with people with negative/plain prejudiced views. It just wasn't appropriate here.

He does great work for the college, that much I know. I think he's a damn good representative for Oriel, anyway...
Well thank you all for the advice would i be right in thinking id be in the same boat for...LSE Imperial and Kings...hopefully not.
You see i really don't want to do maths again but it would seem i'll have to.
my school used to make people going into the 6th form with less than C in maths & english retake them at the same time they did their AS levels. I think the basis for that was that a lot of employers (if you're not going to uni, that is. obviously a degree would supercede one poor GCSE grade) & universities would require basic qualifications like that. if you're going to get 5As at AS then you're obviously not stupid, so maybe retaking it wouldn't be as much work as you think it's definitely worth emailing admissions people though and asking what they think.
Basically I did (poorly in my GCSE's I was involved in a car accident) I just wondered if there was any point me applying for OXBRIDGE?
GCSE’s Results English Lang A English Lit A History B ICT BBBB (GNVQ) Geography C Science CC Religious Studies C Math’s D! (I no lol)
How ever I got back to work when I started my AS Levels and iam predicted 5A'S and I no that’s what I’ve got because I aced the exams!
Politics... Philosophy... Law... English Lang/Lit ...and Film Studies... My College is allowing me to take All 5 subjects to A2 level and My A2 predictions are again 5As
I wanted to study Politics I just wanted to no if there was any point of applying for OXBRIDGE and what my chances were?
Thanx
Like other people say you cant do straight politics at Oxbridge, at Cambridge you could apply for Social and Political sciences and would be able to specialise in Politics later, but in the first year, it would involve doing some sociology and psychology. (have a good look at the course) If you applied for history there are plenty of political history options but you may be disadvantaged in that in the general admissions requirements history is 'highly desirable.'
doing 5 A levels is impressive to me, but it might be unlikely to get given an offer in film studies, more likely the other 4. Is resisting Maths GCSE an option? obviously you would want to mention your circumstances in which your took your GCSE's when you applied. My advice is that you email cam and oxford admissions and see what they suggest, or if you really want to do straight politics, lots of great unis offer it.
Yep thats what i think im gona do Straight Politcs there are loads of other uni's who are better than Oxbridge in that subject when look at the tables (well obviousley not loads lol)
Umm is the advice the same for other uni's like LSE Imperial Kings etc?
I posted this on the other thread.. but just to clarify about 'matriculation requirements' for Oxford. they're no longer as set in stone as they used to be:
The University no longer has formal matriculation requirements. These have been replaced by the following general requirement:
'In order to be admitted to matriculation, candidates must show evidence of an appropriate educational background and good standards of literacy and numeracy.* The University sets no formal "Course Requirements" other than for the First Examination for the Degree of BM; candidates must, however, show that they are qualified to study the particular course they wish to take at Oxford. Acceptance by a college for presentation for matriculation will be deemed to be adequate evidence of an appropriate educational background, of good standards of literacy and numeracy, and of qualifications to study the course.' The University has reserved the right to require candidates to present their certificates for verification if it is deemed necessary.
* GCSE passes at grade C and above in English Language, in a Mathematics or Science subject, and in a language other than English, and at least two A-level passes (or the equivalent in AS levels or a mixture of A and AS levels) would normally satisfy these requirements, as would an appropriate level of attainment in other qualifications such as Scottish Highers, the Irish Leaving Certificate, BTEC National Certificate, an Open University Foundation Course Credit, the European and International Baccalaureates, and degrees of other universities.
so i think the OP would almost fall within these - but MFL? although i've heard the GCSE national requirements have changed (interesting to see if these policy follows suit! or whether Latin prerequisite style they'll demand a MFL from all applicants.. which might screw over quite a few prospectives i've spoken to), i thought this was only from this year on. did you not do a foreign language DemonDemonic?
although as H&E originally mentioned, for PPE at least, Maths seems to be pretty crucial, in fact the only subjects in their entry requirements table for it are Maths & History as being 'helpful' at AS/A2.
edit - ah, you're not going to apply to oxbridge anymore, anyway, whoops. but then for top-non-interviewing unis i think resitting the "important" GCSEs might be even more important. they don't have an interview to judge potential on, so there are various rumours about them just binning applicants without the required number of A/A*s. or make sure you contact the ATs etc. in advance to make sure they'd consider you & your exenuating circumstances? i.e. make your name known to make sure you don't slip through a net on the basis of what will be relatively poor GCSEs.
