Economics at Sheffield

Economics (L100) course at Sheffield - Reputable or not for this course?

In terms of instituitions, is Sheffield a good, reputable university (by that I mean decent job prospects after graduating - looking at IB) to do a BA in Economics at? Cant do the BSc degree course in Econ. like I want to, as I dont have A-level Maths :frown:

Also, which course is better in terms of what potential employers look for - straight Economics or Economics with Management? I am looking to go into investment banking (IB) or a similar area.....

Thanks in advance

Not a lot of people talk about sheffield, have you considered applying for the less popular courses at the more reputable unis? like the joint degrees that have lower entry requirements.
Also if you dont have A-Level maths you can go into industrial economics at nottingham for example which is respected
Nah i think i said somewhere else, but when looking at unis for Economics, Sheffield just doest rank highly and doesnt have the best reports. Both econ and Econ and management would be good, however for IB jobs, id aim higher than Sheffield.

especially for something like investment banking it is better to have a degree from a reputable university even if it isn't Economics

When I went to the Sheffield open day I went to the economics talk and they said that the university is investing a lot in the Economics department so their reputation should increase over the next couple of years.

Sheffield is hardly a slacker uni. Google university of sheffield and investment banking or economics and you find a fair few sheffield grads with decent careers you know.

It's pretty good, yes, but IB is uber competitive. Even with them trying to diversify, they're still heavily Oxbridge/LSE biased. They seem to look at achievements and interviews more than subject matter though, and so economics might not be the best option if you don't like maths - even in the BA there's compulsory courses that go beyond A level. Language skills were pushed very hard when I talked to them.
