Doing a pure subject

Maths
Medicine
Physics (related or any branch)
Engineering disciplines
Chemistry/Economics/Law
Biology

1st
2.1
2.2

In any of the above, is better than anything from a rebranded polytechnic, (with the exception of some specialist subjects in some departments)

So a 2.2 in Biology from Newcastle is better than medicine from Plymouth?

Really?
I'll be happy to get a degree as no one in my immediate family has ever completed uni, but the vast majority of my cousins have a degree. I suppose thats different from some people who will be feeling the competitive thing cos they may have been brought up being told a degree is the only way to go.
I'm currerntly around 2:2 but struggling, so i'm gonna pull my socks up over easter and do lots of revision so i can do well in exams and so lots and lots of reading and dissertation work over summer.
I suppose end of the day, if you want to do better you have to make more of an effort?
I think that some people have every right to be very proud of a 2:2 if they have genuinely worked their hardest to get it. I am hoping to secure a 2:1 in my final exams this summer but if I come out with a 2:2 I will still be very happy. There seems to be the perception on this site that a 2:2 is the end of the world but it really isn't. I understand it would be a problem if you had your heart set on certain graduate schemes or wanted to be a lawyer etc but in general a 2:2 can still allow you to get a good job out of uni I know plenty of people who graduated last year with 2:2s that have decent jobs, same as I also know people with 2:1s and 1sts who are unemployed. I think work experience is what really increases your chances of getting where you want to be after uni.
I had graduated with a 2.2 degree in a mathematics related degree 3 years ago and started writing a blog recently about my journey. I know it may not be helpful for everyone, but I currently am working at a big 4 accounting firm so there may be bits about my journey so far that may help some. I have posted the link below
