How exactly do you identify a suicide bomber who has been smashed to smithereens together with his ID card?
His(/her, Im not sexist) dna samples, maybe the odd thumb and eyeball, and their ID card if they are that dumb to commit suicide in the first place.

So we don't need them, in that case.

But you still need the database of information, and there are more then one reason for having the cards.

Such as? And we don't need one at all, we're managing without ID cards now.

The July suicide bombers were identified without the need for ID cards. They are totally redundant! ID cards would not have stopped the bombings and they would not have helped during the aftermath.

And fraud? Serious fraudsters will not be stopped by ID cards. To make the cards less fallible than the plans currently make out the scheme to be would cost an outrageous amount to both individuals and businesses.

Fraud, helping with police, with medical needs (you collapse when you are on your own), identification.

Thats like saying were managing without cars in the 19th century, pointless.

They were identified by soemthing else that is said to be encroaching on privacy, CCTV, and if they had their DNA on a database it would probably be quicker to find out who they are, where they live, and mroe information, faster.

Helping with police? Do you think criminals will actually bother getting ID cards? No. There will obviously be evasion. The cards may be made compulsory but seeing as the government doesn't even realise how many flipping illegal immigrants and failed asylum seekers there are in this country, how can it possibly be implemented? No one knows who is in the country, therefore no one knows who to force to get an ID card!

They didn't think cars were that useful back then.

Perhaps a subsidisation programme from the government with a percentage of the money from the buying of id cards?

You're talking about two entirely different things, don't try and string them together.

Yet bare in mind that these piddling ID cards in their current state only have 99% accuracy - possibly leading upto 600,000 innocent British citizens being accused of blowing themselves up!

Iris recognition seems to be the basis of the ID cards and iris recognition does bring problems.

The suicide bombers were born in Britain as you have already said, and so they would have had ID cards if we had an ID card system before this year.

If the bombers had been illegal immigrants then it would have been a lot harder for them to implement the scheme.

It would be impossible to know exactly how many illegal immigrants there are becuase there could be some coming over right now, or being killed by the BNP, and so if the government did give its best estimate then it would be called more government propaganda, the government is in a lose-lose situation.

But they weren't. Lots of people dead. Money spent on ID card scheme wasted.

Oops.

This might not be the final version though, it said with thumb prints as well then it would have sorted out accuracy problems.

I was just trying to say how we can't really judge until after we know how the ID cards will be made, but in general there are more ways they can be used advantageously then for wrongdoing.

The point you seem to be making here is that if the July bombers had ID cards then they wouldn't have carried out the bombings. Is spangletastic confused? Yes.
