Its actually probably reactive hypoglycaemia, I've passed out from it before too, its from a fall in blood pressure - and guess what the cause is? Not lack of sugar, but eating sugary foods. What did you eat in the run up to swimming?

Also, swimming does something to your balance/brain/co-ordination which could of caused you to pass out, its something which commonly happens to triathletes, watch them as they come out of the water ready to go on the bike, you see lots of them falling over

About an hour and a half before I had a bowl of cereal, toast and a banana.

Hmm, maybe not then, though the banana will have cause an insulin spike, but that was quite a while before you started swimming obviously.
*EDIT* yeh it does sound like reactive hypoglycaemia

Saying that, exercise causes a fall in blood pressure/insulin levels as well, so that could of tipped your body over the edge as it were, if you've been eating more healthily and cutting out certain foods there could be a good chance you've increased your insulin sensitivity which might of been a factor causing it as well.

The way to solve it - sit down, eat some simple carbs(banana) and then some complex carbs immediately after(oats).

Way to prevent it? Make sure you eat more complex carbs to fuel your body and its efforts throughout the day, and try not to many sugary foods like bananas and some other fruits.

There could be many reasons for passing out, yet if the reason isn't clear you should consult your doctor.

Its pretty clear, as I explained above.

GRR I cant win, if you eat crap you are told you will go obese and die, yet when I eat more fruit, Im told that isnt good either and I pass out! I give up!

And when you say eat oats, how can I achieve that? DO you mean literally a packet of oats?

No...porridge, anything with complex carbs really, brown rice, brown bread, brown pasta, any of that will do. Eat them in small amounts and regularly throughout the day, it'll stop your insulin levels peaking/crashing and the related blood pressure changes from becoming too severe.

Basically you just aren't getting enough energy during the day and the energy you are getting is from simple carbs. It can be a good and bad thing though, it happens quite often if you're low on carbs from dieting, at the moment I'm bordering on it quite a lot, I can feel myself start to get a bit dizzy if I walk around my house too much! As long as you control it and don't pass out from it its ok.

Just remember, the only reason people want you to eat fruit is because it has vitamins/minerals, the rest of most fruits is pretty garbage to be honest, very sugary. Fruit also has a lot of fibre, another advantage. Make sure you get enough fibre and try and get most of your vits/mins from veg, rather than fruit, take a 1 a day multivit/multimin if you're unsure.

Thanks for the advice. The trouble is, I just do not have access to those types of foods. I work 6 days a week and the canteen only serves crap like chips and pies, so I always just get a salad and have a fruit smoothie and some go ahead biscuits. I cannot eat small meals throughout the day either, because I am at work!

Prepare them the night before, I used to make tuna sandwhiches, stick chicken breasts + rice + salad in some tupawear, and take some protein in sandwhich bags as well as a carton of milk to work, you can eat it quickly in the toilet pretending to go for a toilet break if you really have to...

Its only 1 meal every 3 hours, not much to ask for is it?

You can get all of the foods I listed from tescos..

You have to make a choice, tell yourself that its too hard or too difficult to eat the way you want to and need to, because you basically aren't commited. Or do it and reap the rewards. I remember the time the thought of waking up 10 minutes earlier to cook eggs rather than eat a bowl of cocopops brought me close to tears, but 2 years on I don't even think about it anymore.
Can you recommend some things I can have for breakfast, lunch and dinner which would enable me to exercise in the evening without passing out?

Breakfast - scrambled eggs on toast

Lunch - Tuna sandwhiches or chicken breast + rice

Dinner - Steak/lean meat/Oily fish + pasta/rice + veg

The emphasis is on the carbs portion, make sure you have enough and make sure they are complex, that said, a 3 meal a day breakfast/lunch/dinner combo is far far from ideal.

www.mornflake.co.uk (i think) has lots of recipes using oats. They are a fantastic source of energy that keeps you going all day. Should help a bit, and eat small meals regularly to keep your blood sugar stable.

I went swimming yesterday and quite randomly passsed out as I walked to the changing rooms afterwards.

It shook me up quite a bit, and everyone is telling me its a lack of sugar. For the past few weeks I have started to each much more healthier, I have cut out all fizzy drinks, fatty foods, crisps, sweets etc.

I have also been eating a lot more fruit.

How can I healthily get sugar to stop me passing out again?

Many food producst contain carbohydrates that are quickly converted into sugar by your body. Potatoes, Pasta, White Bread are a few examples. If you eat a lot of fruit that should also help as most fruits contain sugar. It seems to me that maybe you pushed yoru body a bit hard going on a healthy diet. Are you trying to loose a lot of weight at once perhaps ? Be careful with diets. One thing is to eat healthy another is starving yourself. You still need some energy ( fat , carbs and sugar ) even if fat and sugar are generally unhealthy in excessive ammounts. Basically make sure you get 3 propper meals a day ( Im bad at this myself ) and mayeb eat some fruit in between. A bag of crisps on a friday night won't kill you , but three a day or an all out fruit diet very well might. You need a broad variety of food in sensible ammounts ( golden midway and everything ). Personally Im a pasta fan (the people I live with complain I make it too often  )
