I'm a post grad coming for the MSc in Politics of the World Economy and I was wondering about the social life too. A lot of people have said LSE isn't a sociable place. Why is this and do you think that joining clubs is a good remedy for this? Do you meet people through seminars?

I don't know a sole in London and I want to meet people!

(especially cute girls...but even non-cute girls are cool, too)

I have no idea how the discussion managed to come to this, but what the hell!
:p: Superbly avoided. I like it.
It's ok...I wont tell...

Fair enough, but it's usually "UCL is cooler than..." with you.

Are you on MSN now? Or shall I not bother signing on...?
Well UCL is cooler than most places.
KCL, nottingham and Manchester are the only places it is not cooler than.
Fact.

I am online. Although Id hate for you to expend all that energy signing on...

I tried a number of responses in reply to this, but all of them ended up being highly hypocritical or just wrong.

the LSE can be sociable and fun. As long as you stay away from history and international relations students... :p:

Edit: Wait! You are a politics student.
Consider this post my biggest failure on TSR.

What good is a great city - no matter how awesome it is - if you don't meet cool people to explore it with?

That's just people chatting bullocks.

Don't believe people who say it's not sociable. Admittedly there will be the few that are, but I'm sure that is something that can be said of all universitites.

there are some universities that have more of a reputation of boring-ness. for example, the University of Chicago - "where fun goes to die." I wouldn't go there, and if LSE's like that, I don't want to go there either.

And if the LSE fails you, and you cant find cool people with which to explore London out of a student population of about 15,000 (yes that figure is made up, but it seems about right), then may I suggest the problem is yours....

Is that your oh-so-subtle way of saying "I don't wish to speak to you, please go and expire in to a hole?"

I'm sure there are plenty of cool, amazing people at LSE. The question is how do students typically meet one another there?

Jebus!
Join societies, mix, talk to people, go to the bar.....

sorry. I jest. None of these will be available to you at the LSE...although I hear that some of the rats at the LSE have been trained to carry notes between the cells...

(Do people really believe that they will have no fun if they go to the LSE? Like the BBC, and any uni, it is what you make it...)

No. If I didnt wish to speak to you Id say, "Hey Aisha! Why dont you just go away and expire in to a hole"....
It's just I would hate for you to sign on to MSN and collapse due to exhaustion and blame it all on me.... :p:

Edit: Just sign on you bint.

You'll meet lots of people via your course, not to mention the University of London Union (ULU), through societies, going out...how else do you meet people?
