On a completely unrelated note, does anyone know how long a British cheque lasts before it becomes void (i.e. how many days do you have to cash it before you're no longer able to do so)?
Six months - for my year out I'm working in an accountant's office.
Does anyone know about ethnic/cultural societies at LSE? I'd be interested in an Afro-Caribbean Soc myself, but I don't know if there are many black students at LSE...
yo when i went to the lse there were like 5 black people. but u know the whole uk and us is hooked on 'black music' -hip/hop and R&B. so there will be bare of that sort of music!

yep the SHAG (soul hiphop and garage) society have events. There used to be hiphop/rnb at Crush on a friday night, but after a massive ruck at the new years do, they decided that hiphop/rnb were to blame, and scrapped it from the rest of the years Crush's. i'm not sure whats happening with this years, but if you want decent 'black music' as you call it, go Milkshake (the student night at Ministry of Sound) and check out the hiphop/rnb room which is absolutely class - a million times better than any Crush.
What typically goes on at the Induction Reception/Party things? I notice that for Law, Economics, A&F, Government (the biggies? ), the reception goes on late into the night (11pm), whereas the other courses have only brief sessions during the afternoon.

Well I didnt have a party for my Actuarial Science course, but I do know there about my mates Economics one. apparently they didnt do much, apart from meet new people. he met a girl who later ended up being his girlfriend so I'd say from that evidence alone it cant be too bad. sorry i cant offer any more accurate info, ollie.

If you look at the one for Law, it says "SDR" - and taking the hints from the other dept inductions in the list, I think it's a location. Just don't know where! But it's no biggie, I was just curious as to where it is.

ah i've figured it out, its the Senior Dining Room - havent got a clue where it is, there might be a few. but SCR is senior common and SDR is senior dining.

Cheers for that. So it's safe to assume there's free food?
lol if not, just say you're 'poppin to the toilet' and run up kingsway to maccie's at holborn lol.
I think it's against the law for anybody to hold a large group of students during fresher's week, against their will from 5 till 11, without a substantial stock of food and booze.
At the very least it will probs be cheap wine, soft drinks and finger food?
