Caravan holidays - what's the big attraction?

Hey

Having been stuck behind a series of Dutch caravans all the way through France, I was thinking of having a rant against caravan drivers - is anyone able to present a convincing argument as to the advantages of caravan holidays? I'll have a go at dismissing some of the likely "advantages of caravans" that I would expect put forward:

a) "You can stop where you want for the night". - Response: you can do the same with a tent;
b) "It's a cheap holiday". - Response: if you factor in the cost of petrol, time it takes you to get down there, etc. it can't work out cheaper - you can easily find places to stay at B&B / chambres d'hotes in France for EUR20-30 a couple a night. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is effectively subsidising their "cheap holiday" as they are delayed, costing other motorists fuel, time and causing more pollution than necessary;
c) "You can take everything with you" - Response: including all your food, tv, satellite dish. why bother going on holiday if you don't appreciate the change of scenery, culture, and food. they leave the Netherlands with all their kit, drive 800km south then set up next to their neighbours from Amsterdam;

So come on - anyone able to advance the defence of caravan holidays?

Although i am pleased to have flattered you...i did say you were preferable to listening to your grandmother dumping in a bucket :wink:
