Cambridge rejections/acceptances

Hey LSF,

Have you ruled out the option of re applying? I know a lot of people on here will disagree with me, but I think if you want to go to Oxbridge as much as I think you do, then you should perhaps give it some thought. You've already heard the stories about people being rejected first time round then gaining the highest firsts!! If you don't get in the second time then maybe consider elsewhere.

No doubt people will say 'there are other good unis' etc. and Nottingham is exceptional for Law, but in my opinion, if you are about to spend 75K on an education, you might as well make sure you have tried more than once to get in to the place you want to be. That is a lot of money you know. Many of those advising against reapplying may not know how much money you are spending. Perhaps wait and see what the comments of the interviewers are, and if you think they are minor enough, then reapply.

One year is a fraction of your life. You may even be able to do something in your gap year that will strengthen your application. Maybe consider an Oxford college?

However, the downside to reapplying is that you will have to go through this whole nightmare again, and you may be rejected again!

Where/what did you apply to/for? Im not sure how to feel about being the last ones to know.......

Do you think they are waiting to look at pooled applicants before making final decisions about us??

Is Wolfson one of the ones that has a higher percentage of graduates compared to other colleges?

I just wanted to say that getting in oxford or cambridge should not be actually that big deal. It's just our, the class of intellectually superior savants, attitude towards it that makes it such a huge thing.
Keynes went to Cambridge , Ali G went to Oxford , what about everybody else ? studyin in oxbridge doesn't guarantee success in life.
So all you people out there that didn't get in, dont allow this to hold you back! Not only can u still succeed as much, but you are also guaranteed a much better time. Go party in a Nottingham club and call me up around midnight check if i have finished any of my extended essays for that week just yet!
As I was told by an american academic advisor " It doesn't matter which college you go to, all that matters is what you make out of it" !

I hope ya'll make the best out of your years wherever you go!

Best wishes,

hey that's the nicest thing i have heard since i was rejected this morning  i concur. i know many ppl will think i agree becoz i belong to the group of rejected students who try to denounce the colleges that rejected them, but ever since i started my college research, i've constantly been debating about this issue. i've reached the conclusion, that there is no point in killing oneself for educational purposes and not enjoying life. i understand that to some (perhaps me too :-P) studying and expanding one's intellect is enjoying life...but nevertheless, as you have already pointed out, going to cambridge does not guarantee success and wanting to succeed in life should not be one's only motivation for going to cam. hopefully i will be going to imperial and will have hell of a time in london

good luck to all of you for the future and sorry for these random thoughts...
BIG BIG BIG Thank You to all those people who have tried to cheer me up and given me support in one way or another. I've tried PMing lil thank yous to each of you but in case I missed anyone out, just wanted to show my appreciation.

I hope that everyone else gets a lil bit of kindness whenever they need it. Even though I've been rejected and really shouldn't be in this forum anymore, I'm gonna hang around coz' its full of really great people that are not only accomplished and extremely smart, but also have big warm hearts. Thanks!

Well said. This forum is full of sweeties innit? Lolz. Just looking back at all the lovely things they've said really warms my heart. Being rejected sucks, but at least I didn't have to go through it alone.

Yeah, Wolfson is a graduate college and was initially created to be for research only as the tutors did not want to spend time on supervisions with undergrads....but since then they decided to offer about 90 places for mature undergrads......
I haven't heard back from Lucy Cavendish College (for law)--and it's for mature students, too. Has anyone applied/heard back from that college?
p.s. LSF: you'll be a big fish in a little pond at Nott Uni!

Perhaps that is cos you're in Canada??

I dont think Wolfson have posted yet....They dont return to college until Monday.....

I dont think it is a grad college thing to send it out late cos someone on here who lives in NY had an offer from Huges hall!

How old are you?

I'm 24. Already been in Uni for 7 years (!). Just completing my master's and have applied to law at Cam, in Canada, and the US. But I *really* don't want to go to the States and I would rather not spend another 3 years towards a law degree at my Uni right now.

Me? Work? But seriously, I am doing a masters in public health and want to get into consulting/medical ethics. I figure the job will come eventually. It's not really impressive--I'm just a couple of steps ahead of all of you. After all, the majority of you are only 18!

Oh no LilSunflower *big hugs*

I'm so sorry it wasn't the result you were hoping for after that agonising wait.

You'll have a fab time at Nottingham and wonder what the fuss was all about.

really so u think royal holloway is good?

ive got an offer from there same as u 3 bs or abc, but i didnt think it was that marvellous , but then i dont no anything about it!

Hi Kat!

We must've had the same interviewer at Trinity! Paul Wingfield? What a nice bloke!

You may well be right about Choral Awards at Sidney though I'm sure that when I looked they only did the 'apply when you get there'variety. Either way it didn't matter - I'd already decided I didn't fancy spending a week there in September when I was going to be out of college so much anyway. I'm an alto, btw (well a mezzo, but they don't do 'mezzo' awards, do they? lol)

Royal Holloway has a 5* rating for the quality of its research, just like Cam. I don't know what it was like formerly but it's certainly got a good reputation now, especially since its link-up with the RCM. I didn't much like the halls of residence and it's SO expensive there - DOUBLE Cam! But there you go - sometimes you have to compromise. It was recommended to me by people I trust in the music business and who know what they are talking about - my instrumental teacher, my friend's dad, who is a music tutor at KCL and another friend who is a music tutor at Southampton.

hey, i applied to do music at Kings and got pooled....guess a jazz saxophonist aint their thang!!!!! lol! Good luck in the pool!

Hi

I so nearly applied to Kings. I'd set my heart on going there since I was 14 but changed my mind at the last minute. I really liked Nick Marston when I met him at the Open Day but Kings seemed SO big and filled with tourists. I felt a bit vulnerable.

Good luck in the pool to you, too!
