    Privatisation = bad.
    Depends to what extent; but fundamentally, in a globalised economy, nationalisation sucks; all you have to do is look at east vs west germany 1940s, north vs south korea now. The problems arise when the quality of some really necessary good(like transport) is at risk.

    Huh? So they ask the harder questions to the better candidates? I'm so ignorant I should be shot.

    Well my mind's a bit hazy as to how I responded; but I was saying it doesn't seem all that just idelogically, but it is necessary, in the long run increased wealth of country bla bla (i've explained this earlier on in the thread) is in jeopardy because of socialism, it was more a long ron/short run thing based on economic theory.
    Well I think they'd be quite impressed with your answer anyway, and didnt think it neccessary to challenge your answer cos the question was challenging enough. You did well to get 100% on the logic test.....I think you must have impressed them quite a bit!

    I think the word 'intrinsic' would be taken out of the question for other subjects. For comp sci or medicine for example, the answer required is one about vocation and usefulness. But with philosophy, it's asking for it's use (which is hard enough anyway) but then questioning whether that use is worth anything ultimately; and that is where the difficult lies.
    I was actually trying to say subjects without an obvious application but I couldn't find the words.

    I think if you define worthwhile as being for the greater good then it's okay to use my arguement.

    So it has been said on this forum. I'm not entirely sure about this....I think it depends on the mood of the interviewer.

    It seemed to me that my two interviewers hardly knew one another...clearly there had been no preparation on their behalf.....It was all improvisation..........Thats what i think anyway..i could be wrong.

    It's bad for the following four reasons:

    1) Impossible to have free markets in some privatised industries
    2) Government watchdogs / regulation ensure the political element remains; privatisation is rarely independent
    3) Markets can fail. Private companies motivated by profits and accountable only to shareholders do not provide the best consumer services
    4) Nationalised industries have a minister who is accountable to the electorate

    And those would be my debating notes

    Most people think of it in that way; but in philosophy they're going to scrutinize that belief (unlike in other subjects). It's just like the way most people believe in some mathematical calculations as true; when the calculations are far more complex and contentious than anyone outside the subject may care to think.

    Hmm I'm not too sure if there are certain things in maths that people assume that are iincredibly complex to prove, especially at an elementary level.

    I think it also depends on how the interviewee reacts to being grilled. If they can see he/she is reacting well or can cope then they will be more willing to keep on pushing rather than if the interviewee looks like he's/she's about to cry (unless they're really evil ).
